billybrew1 Posted August 26, 2021 Posted August 26, 2021 Joe's bringing back Hollister after placing guys on IR so it's cool there. I guess he sees Hodgins and is very impressed. I think WR depth is crucial to out run. It definitely contributed heavily to our demise last January. Allen was too alone. Yes, the OL needed to be better, but Allen's weapons were gone just about. Playing with injuries that compromised their game heavily. I'd love to see Allen's numbers go up, but Diggs and Beasley's numbers to go down without injuries taking place. We need to use a whole arsenal. The more the merrier. 7 DEs is kinda crazy anyway you look at it. You figure two are going to be inactive each week.... IDK? Can more than five play effectively? We need help at outside CB. Bates and Doyle are questionable depth at OL (at least, that's how Bates looked to me at center vs. Chicago.) The NFL season is sooooooo long..... I hope Beane creates miracles along the practice squad over the fall.... Were going to need them. 1
BigAl2526 Posted August 26, 2021 Posted August 26, 2021 I think one of those 8 WRs (Stevenson or Hodgins)goes to the PS and there will be another TE.

I know Joe B is pretty dialed in so this team must really like Hodgins for some reason despite his injuries issues. I still think we could easily cut him and put him on the PS though without not clearing waivers. 1

Dont see Jake Kumerow, Marquez Stevenson, Isaiah Hodgins all making the roster. One or tow of them max. LB Dodson is making the team Side note - He doesnt even have Fromm on practice squad. Some out there think he has trade value... do you think Fromm has trade value?

Most QBs have some form of trade value, I mean Nate Peterman has a NFL job. So some team might like Fromm's potential and give us some low round pick for him if worried can't get him on the waiver wire.

He expects the Bills to cut some vested veterans with the intent of bringing them back once the 53 roster is set and they can place people on IR so that they can come back sometime this season. I foresee that happening also. Beane doesn't want to lose future potential talent for the team if he can get them onto IR and figuring out what to do during the season.

I think that's the big question. That's how teams are going to play us. No one (but KC) wants to get in a shootout with Josh slinging it Allen. Who on the Bills is going to play tackle and eat up blockers play in and play out? Are our ends tough enough to do that? I watched Basham at tackle and he might be able to help. I wish we had Ted Washington. I really do. If we had him, all those teams looking to run on us would be ruined (as long as Ted was on the field, he'd stack the whole play up.) Vernon is the closest thing we have to Ted because t I think he plays too high. Maybe Star can help, but he's on y good for limited snaps. Zimmer is more of a knifer, but every tackle is taught how to stack. I really loved our draft, I like every pick, but especially the first three. We needed them all. The trouble is we needed a CB and a DT, imho.... and a TE (LOL!) We could use a guy like that old DT on Tampa. A real shutdown guy. He's no Ted Washington, but He is the closest thing to him I can recall now. I expect a DT #1 next year. Then G/C, CB, WR/TE..... I expect to be disappointed with the DT, somehow I expect the Bills to draft a smaller athletic type (like Star) of one-tech whereas I want a big monster, like Ted Washington. 22 hrs. to Bills/packer kickoff. Do both teams run their #1s a bit? It feels like the Bills have to in order to field a team.... This would be quite the matchup in the regular season though I like the Bills here. Allen has more weapons at his disposal. The teams are pretty close though as the packers have a good line, running game and defense. Good, not great.
Fred Slacks Posted August 26, 2021 Posted August 26, 2021 We can go 7 WR. No way we go 8. Kumerow can replace Taiwan Jones as gunner I believe. So that would be the swap for the 4th RB. Giliam plays RB/TE. But we would at bare minimum carry Knox and Hollister. The log jam at DE is crazy. I bet we trade one. No way we hold onto 7. Some years we only have carried 4 (maybe 5). This year to carry 6 would be a lot. LB I suppose would be where we sacrifice for extra defensive linemen. This will no doubt be quite the debate once we see final cuts/roster. Joe B I enjoy his stuff but he is way off here I believe.

Give the current predicament the team could be in in the future, keeping a ton of WR makes some sense, but something has to give at another position group for that to work.

I know Jones is a great ST player but you have to make sacrifices sometimes and he probably will be out there on the street if we really need him back later this season. - No way we are cutting Hollister and it has nothing to do with being JA's former college teamate, IMO right now he's a better TE than Knox based on his previous resume. If you read on in Joe's article - you would see: Re-sign RB Taiwan Jones and TE Jake Hollister: Now to the roster madness. This is a move Beane loves using at final cuts. He identifies vested veterans — players with over four accrued years of NFLservice or more — near the middle to bottom of the roster, on the final year of their contracts and without a ton of guaranteed money owed. Vested veterans do not need to pass through waivers and may immediately sign wherever they choose. Beane releases them initially, gives them some money for their trouble and re-signs them to give his team flexibility. In this case, it’s with the injuries to McKenzie and Phillips. That small move with Jones and Hollister would keep McKenzie and Phillips available to return off IR this year while keeping on two other younger players they otherwise would have had to cut. Jones has $700,000 guaranteed this year, and Hollister only has $137,500 guaranteed, according to OverTheCap.com. Upon their re-signing, it’s fair to expect their new contracts would be close to fully guaranteed for the season with a nice little signing bonus. Edited August 26, 2021 by BillsFanForever19
Simon Says Posted August 26, 2021 Posted August 26, 2021 Hollister? No way they go with only Knox and Gilliam at TE. 8 QR seems excessive . And 12 DL? This is nuts
ColoradoBills Posted August 26, 2021 Posted August 26, 2021 8WRs on the active roster and 3WRs more on the PS seems nuts.
