Beerball Posted August 22, 2021 Posted August 22, 2021 I don't want to go all @stevestojan about this, but Haack was pretty brutal yesterday. Should Beane bring in some fresh legs to look at? 1 1 1 1
Simon Says Posted August 22, 2021 Posted August 22, 2021 I don't think there are any suitable replacements available YET. After the final cuts, take a look. I'm no punting expert; is there anything the ST coach,Farwell, could be doing with scheme, etc. that affects Haack?
MJS Posted August 22, 2021 Posted August 22, 2021 He was awesome the week before. I guess give him the chance in the regular season to show this he isn't the guy. No need to panic now. 2 1
ColoradoBills Posted August 22, 2021 Posted August 22, 2021 Haack looked great in Detroit. His first punt yesterday had a lot of pressure on him (I remember the announcer talked about it almost being blocked). His second was at the 1 yard line in the end zone. He took a "one step" kick to avoid a block and did it fairly well. I guess fans need to panic about something but he is an established veteran punter. 4 3

sherpa Posted August 22, 2021 Posted August 22, 2021 I wonder if Bass can handle a snap and punt. Admittedly, a Sunday afternoon musing. So far, not a "Haaker."
EmotionallyUnstable Posted August 22, 2021 Posted August 22, 2021 I don’t see any harm in bringing in healthy competition, even if it is an illusion.
Rigotz Posted August 22, 2021 Posted August 22, 2021 If you want to pay $2.25M to not have him on our roster this year, year we can replace him. The more reasonable path would be to actually let him play a game or two after giving him a 3 year contract. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/buffalo-bills/matt-haack-22270/ 1 3 1

SC BIlls Fan Posted August 22, 2021 Posted August 22, 2021 I don't want Bass to have to get used to another holder! 1

There HAS to be someone better! 2 1 1
SECRET SQUIRREL Posted August 22, 2021 Posted August 22, 2021 Bass has been dead accurate on all of his kicks on his holds so far this year, he's worth keeping around on that alone. 1 1

You could tell Bass was practicing directional kicks, so Haack was probably practicing something specific. If I recall, Haack isn't a boomer like Bojo, but he’s more known for good accuracy on his kicks.
DJB Posted August 22, 2021 Posted August 22, 2021 We don't plan on punting anyways so why get upset by this? 🤔 1 1 2 1

Brennan Huff Posted August 22, 2021 Posted August 22, 2021 If we punt more than 10 times this season I’ll be shocked

LabattBlue Posted August 22, 2021 Posted August 22, 2021 Kind of like the talk of cutting Bass early last season? 😉 1
ProcessTruster Posted August 22, 2021 Posted August 22, 2021 (edited) I'm still trying to figure out why Cory B is gone. I thought he was fine, maybe a little pricey but nothing that wasn't manageable. Beane may have missed on this one. Edited August 22, 2021 by ProcessTruster spelling 1

It's funny but some of his worse days were against the Bills. But he is a pretty good punter. He had 1 blocked punt that I watched against the Pats* in 2018. He didn't have a chance on the kick. The 22:25 mark. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1fg1LfX9If0 The way I think that Beane and McDermott are thinking is he doesn't need to kick deep with the Bills offense. He should be kicking balls needing to get inside the 20 with good hang time and no returns. Like I said he had some bad games against Buffalo. Here is his splits. https://www.nfl.com/players/matt-haack/stats/splits/ 1
