The John Elway broncos went 5-11 in 1990.  Elway started all 16 games and he had a pretty bad year.  No one thought he was suddenly a bad QB.  0The Tom Brady led, back to back super bowl champion Patriots, missed the playoffs in 2002.  Brady threw 14 INTS that year.  No one thought he was a flash in the pan.  Mahomes may be in the midst of a down season, but no one anywhere thinks he's a bust etc.  3 seasons of very high level production is more than enough sample size to cement Mahomes as a high end QB.  I would say that his struggles are more to do with factors around him than they are with him alone.

So at what point do we stop with the excuse “he’s pressing because of a bad defense” and acknowledge the fact that a defense is gonna look worse than they really are when your qb is giving teams short fields 2 and 3 times a game.

And I dunno that anyone is calling him a bust but it’s time to drop the guy down from his mythical “God Tier” of qb’s and realize he’s not head and shoulders above the pack of guys just behind him.

We did pretty well vs the Ravens in the playoffs last year. There's no reason to believe we can't beat the Browns. But yeah, the Titans are a problem. Potentially. They are hot right now, but they are an inconsistent team. They lost to the Jets.

I'd argue there's a bit less reason for confidence against the Browns than you're admitting.

Yeah, we beat the Ravens last year. But though Lamar appears now to have figured out the passing game, he hadn't back then. This year's Baker (and this year's Lamar) are quite a bit more dangerous than last year's Lamar in the passing game.

reasons for their suck:

The OL gets destroyed by 4 pass rushers on every play.  At least one guy seems to beat his man fairly quickly every time Mahomes drops back.

Pringle and Robinson stink.

Hardman is the most overrated player in the league….and no one thinks he’s good.

Andy Reid has done a poor job adjusting to the way teams are defending his offense.

Frank Clark is ineffective.

Chris Jones being hurt and playing out of position.  Major issue.

Daryl Williams is their best RB imo.  Clyde was a wasted pick.

Jarran Reed is invisible.

they draft LBs often….. and only have one decent LB.  And he’s a rookie.

they really miss the attitude Breeland brought.  He may not have been a great player, but he played well vs us and set the tone.

I read here that sneed was a top 5 corner.  One of the best In the league.  He’s made a few nice plays this year but is also getting scorched on the reg.  Not that pff grades are gospel, but his coverage rating is 44.  Piss poor.

Where is the proof that Lamar figured out the passing game?  Just because he has more attempts?  His completion % is about the same.  His rating is slightly down.  He has half as many interceptions as he does TDs.  Seems pretty much the same or maybe worse because of the TD:INT ratio just with more attempts.  That doesn't mean he has figured out anything.  Lamar had an excellent game vs the Colts and has been pretty much the same outside of that game.

The key to beating Lamar and the Ravens is the same as it was last season.

He is in a slump. It happens to every player in every sport. Allen was in a slump the first two games of the season. One good game and he'll find his groove again.

Some of the factors around him aren't helping but he is still responsible for his own play. The Bills offensive line played like crap against the Steelers and Allen went on a two game skid where he forgot how to throw the ball. He was still responsible for missing some of those throws. If things out of your control are affecting your play, that is on you.

It might be hard for Mahomes to lose the hero ball. He played that style for three seasons and didn't get punished for it until the Super Bowl last year. This year it has directly led to losses against the Ravens and Chargers, and somewhat the Titans. Against the Bills he had ugly footwork for much of the game and his passes were off. Say what you want about the factors around him. He is getting paid half a billion dollars to rise above all of that. I think he will snap out of it.

I appreciate you admitting you like to troll, I actually have more respect for you. Also admitting you were wrong about plenty of other things regarding the construct of the roster.

I recall you being rather arrogant regarding the FA signings by KC, and telling me and a few others here that basically KC figured out a work around for pushing money down the road...Let's see how this works out for the team. KC could be the shortest "dynasty" the NFL has ever seen. What IF Mahomes really isn't that good, but was a product of a system like so many QB's to come out of the Big 12? I mean this could just as easily be the case as say KC ripping off 10 wins and then a SB run. Imagine having that contract in place and Reid leaves in a year or two? Time will tell.

I don’t think Mahomes is the “product of a system”.  He’s a legit top QB in the NFL.  But he was being presented as the “magic man” who didn’t need the support of a good OL, and could carry the team regardless of the defense.  And just like Rodgers, Brees, Peyton Manning etc that is likely to be untrue.

No, not just because he has more attempts.

“Jackson’s 67.5 completion percentage, 8.7 yards per attempt, 9.9 average depth of target, and 80 percent on-target throw rate are all the highest single-season marks of his career. Put another way: Never has Lamar ever thrown as many accurate balls; and he’s never thrown the ball as far downfield, either. And this is happening without a significant increase in his time to throw (3.12 seconds, just above his career average of 3.11 seconds) in pressure rate (19.1 percent, just above his career average of 19.0 percent), or sack rate (7.6 percent, just above his career average of 6.9 percent).”

I don’t think he’ll ever be a flawless passer, but I think it’s pretty obvious that he’s improved in that regard.  Has he “figured it out”?  Idk what that means but he certainly looks better to my eyes.

I don’t agree that the Chiefs oline is that bad. They’re being made to look worse because Mahomes won’t step up in the pocket and keeps drifting. They’re decent in pass pro, they’re just being made to block for too long and at bad angles because he’s trying to buy more time than is necessary.

The titans were missing aj brown and Julio jones when they played the jets

Sneed is a very good nickel. There was a Chief fan here in the offseason proclaiming he would move outside and become their #1 corner. Well so far when he has been asked to play on the boundary some he has sucked. He is a very good slot corner but he is only a slot corner IMO. Same as I think Taron Johnson would struggle outside. There is no shame in the modern NFL in being a specialist nickel. It is basically a starting position. But a bit like playing Jones outside the Chiefs have moved Sneed too often out of the position in which he plays best.

When I consider the contracts, it’s pretty bad. Creed Humphrey is the only prudent move made.
Mahomes has always done those things you describe.

His "improvements" were barely decimal points.

Very good chance we end up playing them in Orchard Park in the Wild Card or Divisional Round.

They are going to be in a fight just make the playoffs. Seven teams make it. Look at the AFC. BUF, TEN, BAL/CIN, LAC/OAK are the probable division winners. The Wild Cards will most likely be loser of BAL/CIN AND LAC/OAK, KC, CLE, and maybe NE/ INDY fighting all to get those 3 spots. KC has their work cut out for them

I need to see Vegas survive down the stretch to believe it. They have been in position both of the last two years (6-4 in 2019 and 6-3 in 2020) before collapsing. to 7-9 and 8-8. I think they are in the mix, sure, but I'm not willing to say they definitely finish ahead of KC in the West. They still have two head to heads to go in any event and they will be determinative.

My thinking was, if they get the 7th seed we’ll play them WC Week if we’re #2.  If we get the top seed and they upset the #2 seed (decent possibility, IMO) we’d see them Divisional Round.

My bad I meant LV not OAK. I still think of them as Oakland just like I think of the Chargers as SD. As for the Raiders Carr is playing very well. I think they will be in the mix this year and not fade away. Those Raiders - Chiefs games are going to be huge.

Carr is playing at an extremely high level. He hasn't always been capable of maintaining that and I still think their D is questionable. They might last the pace this time but I have to see it to believe it.

Right, but there are other things to consider than just money for a contract. Like the fact they gave up a first round pick for Brown, and need to figure that out. Do they throw a pick away and not sign him or sign him to what is sure to be a rather expensive contract, most LT cost money. Right now that looks like a damned if you do damned if you don't decision. If they do not sign Brown that will be two years in a row they basically wasted their first round pick. Need to talk more about how this is effecting the team now and will for years to come.
