If he's fully recovered, which seems to be the case (hence activated), no reason Dion can't get his conditioning level back to normal in 2 weeks.  Put us at August 29th and plenty of time for week 1.

Game shape? That’s my concern.

The opener is 3 weeks away.........he might suck week 1.........but we should all be surprised if he misses week 1.

Pittsburgh can get after the QB.  We need him for Week 1.

He had Covid. He tested positive. Beane also told us one of the two (Dion or Ike) was unvacced. I wonder if it was Dion and he has had it worse than Ike and this is McDermott trying to send a message again. Might be reading too much into it but just a thought.

I was reading from the same script.  That's the tone I'd expect Sean to use.  Let's say Dion had more severe symptoms, lost some weight and is short of breath and fatigues easily.  That would make him far from being ready.  These guys do everything to make themselves available to play under all circumstances.  If he had a tougher time with the virus and was vaccinated, I could see why Sean would be somewhat irked and refers to it as another teachable example.

It's worrying but don't forget there's an off week between preseason game 3 and the season starting, so he has that extra week to get up to speed (I say this because I just assumed the regular season began the week after due to the 17 week schedule, didn't even check it)

Well if this does mean that Dion could be out for a while it seems to me you got to give Spencer Brown as much work at LT as possible.

I know it would be nice to see how he plays at RT for future swing tackle considerations but this has to take priority.

Hmm. Yea I wonder if this "he is a long way away" is partly McDermott sending a message to the team to say if you are unvacced and you get it then you do not gey your spot back automatically. You have to earn it back. Am I mad to think that is what could be behind this?

That is my guess as well. A message to Dion and the rest of the unvaccinated.

I think it's all cardio and won't be surprised if he misses week 1.

It's probably more than cardio.   Strength too.  Plus teamwork on the line.

He has three weeks to get in shape, then a week to tune up.  Doable without bumps in the road.   Wouldn't be surprised, if he's back for the opener, to see him get an occasional series off.

I would guess the opposite

Why? I believe there was threads about him being so out of shape prior to covid. Wasn’t he seen riding a bike with a sweat vest on and people had jokes?

Any recent pictures of him?

As we know, McD is a non nonsense coach.  He is firing a shot across the bow of Dawkins.  He has missed 2 + weeks of training camp.  He has a month to get it together.  If he starts practicing this week, I'm not worried.

I'm not all that worried about this. Missed time due to Covid and I'm thinking this is just a motivational shot across the bow of Dawkins.  Like MasterStrategist, I'll be more concerned in a couple weeks if he still isn't up to speed.

Covid can be a long haul recovery. Hopful this is not the case for the Shnowman. Worried that it might.

He's a professional. He knows what it takes to get ready. There's no reason to believe he will miss week 1. It's not like he's a rookie.

Can be, but often isn't. Kind of a roll of the dice, but most players last year got back within normal time frames. No reason yet to believe that he won't.

He's not a rookie, but being sick like that and having to get ready for the season at the same time...I'm sure that's a new situation for him. Thankfully, the Bills have a great medical/conditioning staff.
