Levi locking down CB2?

Say what you will, CB 2 was never a glaring weakness on this team since Levi’s been here, imho.

The guys been good since the literal first day he got a look. I don’t understand why people are always trying to replace him. He’s good. It’s been good. He’s a rare undrafted gem that stepped in and severely outplayed his expectations. Just appreciate it.

well who’s out there? They’ve drafted cbs they’ve brought in free agent cbs. Levi has faced both vet and rookie competition and beat them all out. Keep saying he sucks tho.

I think we are far too thin at CB. But let's see what Dane and Wildgoose can do in preseason action.

Secondary is definitely confusing from a fan perspective. 
 

Safeties Hyde/Poyer, with CB1 White and Nickel Corner Johnson is up there with any other top secondary in the league. 
 

After that, we have Neal, who the staff seems to like a lot and then a serviceable CB2 in Wallace, followed by a bunch of young late round picks.  
 

It does seem to feel like the staff believes our DL will be much improved.  Heaven knows they’ve thrown enough assets at it.  
 

As pointed out earlier, that would cover up any weak spots in the secondary.

some may argue that guys to compete with him isn’t the right tier to target for a starting 2.

 

last year I beat the “add a pass rusher” drum. This year I suspect that’s still relevant but with all the investment in the line that the get a cb2 drum is what I’ll be beating as the spot I hope we don’t regret come January

The Bills should consider bringing back Norman or E.J. Gaines.  They know the system and can play in the league.  The current depth is quite scary.   Beane should have really addressed the CB position in the draft or FA

I didn’t say he sucks , but a washed up Norman and a 7th round pick is not what I would call serious competition

Who have their brought in?  Kevin Johnson, Norman, gaines (who opted out and was cut), Dane and Wildgoose?  Pitts?  Cam Lewis?  Each one is a depth player at best.  
 

I agree that they planned on improving cb2 by improving the pass rush…..let’s just hope he has improved in man coverage

With all due respect…..the players that we’ve been bringing and he’s been beating out in aren’t even in the league anymore…..Dane and Wildgoose a 7th and 6th rd pick.

What Thad wrote, I heard the exact same all week in Sal’s morning spots with H&J show on WGR.  Levi has played very well and Dane has been inconsistent.  I was hoping for a better camp and got lucky on a 7th rounder, but I guess he’ll just be depth.

 

Its not Madden so you can’t have stars everywhere.  Wallace is not as bad as some make him out to be.  He just gets thrown a lot as OV’s want to stay away from White.  The real opportunity is just moving White around a lot.

Well, I'm a fan of Levi Wallace, but I don't think he is ideal as a #2 corner. As a #3 or reserve corner he'd be great. He's the type of guy every team wants as depth, but I sure hope we get a better #2 option sometime in the future.

Because Beane's literal JOB is to assemble the best possible roster/team he can, each season. Levi Wallace is not the BEST POSSIBLE CB2 in the NFL for this scheme (although of course he IS a serviceable starter there, as we've seen). Basically, Levi Wallace is NOT yet good enough to lock up long term and present as a definitive pair with Tre White. But until the Bills decide to allocate more draft/FA resources to the position (or get luckier with late-round guys and/or under-the-radar vet pickups), Levi Wallace is likely good enough to keep himself near the top of the depth chart. He LIVES McDermott's process. I love his mindset.

 

It's even possible that some other team makes him a multiple-year offer after this season, when the cap jumps and he's likely logged another solid but unspectacular campaign on a visible Bills secondary unit. Heck, maybe Levi makes a bunch of plays and EARNS a real payday. Who knows?

yes i agree with that. Levi is not beating back all pros. He’s fighting off the guys getting in there to take his job; what more do you want from the guy. He’s not that bad btw for a 2nd corner some of yall think Beane is just going to pluck another tre white out his whatever. Doesn’t work like that.

That's mostly true. They did bring in highly recognizable names for the position, including Vontae Davis and Josh Norman. They brought in the highly drafted Kevin Johnson to compete, a former first rounder.

 

So they have been trying, but clearly not investing big money or draft picks to the position. But to me, it's notable that they keep trying and they don't seem sold on Wallace. Wallace was likely moving on from the team, if it wasn't for the reduced cap. The Bills brought him back late on a 1 year deal. Unless he kills it this year I expect the Bills to let him walk.

 

The Bills have been talking with their money and actions. They haven't invested a lot of money in the position, but they also haven't wanted to invest money in Wallace either. I'm pretty certain they want an upgrade, but haven't felt the need to put real assets toward it yet.

and levi was an undrafted free agent. What’s your point
