That is the 2021 value of Jim Kelly’s NFL record setting 1986 7.5 million dollar contract when he first came to the Bills.

 

Crazy, huh?  We are not even talking about an inflationary change, but rather exponential change in the value of a product over time that just could not have been foreseen.

 

if I could go back in time, and meet up with Jim Kelly before he signed that deal in 1986, I would be like…

 

“Jim, good tidings. I am here from the future to guide you on your contract.”

The value of today’s Josh contract, if you were to do it back in 1986, would be $104 million dollars, even back then.

I don't think you guys are comparing apples to apples. If you say Allen will make 43 million per year in 2021 dollars, that is 17.7 million per year in 1986 dollars.

 

Was Kelly's 7.7 million dollars in 1986 his per year salary, or for the life of the contract? If it was 7.7 million per year, then Allen is making a little over twice as much per year as Kelly made.
