The surrender by the Afgan forces is another story that deserves investigation. Almost seems like a setup.

No, it wasn't a set-up.  The United States was the one paying their paychecks.  When Joe announced we were pulling out, they went home.  They weren't going to stand out there and get shot at for free.  This was a strategic mess on steroids!

You can put up  concrete barriers, check points, have bomb sniffing dogs, there's plenty you can do.  Now that we've drawn down so many of our soldiers and abandoned any strategic advantages we have there's no choice but to trust the Taliban.

This happened because the Taliban "failed" in their searches.

Feeling Shy?  Then stay in that hellhole.

No more loss of life.

The Taliban would never allow women to do that. I doubt they would even search women.

This happened because we didn't evacuate people out before we pulled our ability to ensure it transpired in the most effective and efficient way possible. This happened because instead of doing this over a protracted period of time, we waited until we couldn't possibly do it within the prescribed deadline we set. This happened because we isolated ourselves geographically to one location without the ability to adequately protect ourselves - pretty much putting a bulls eye on the airport for all of the enemies we have in that part of the world.

This happened because this Administration doesn't have a f*#@ing clue when it comes to matters such as this....

Put up a 10’ high tarp followed by a 30 yard clear zone.

negotiate a solution but make it happen.

11 Marines and a sailor dead because of the system for letting them through.

U.S. officials provided Taliban with names of Americans, Afghan allies to evacuate

“Basically, they just put all those Afghans on a kill list,” said one defense official.

The decision to provide specific names to the Taliban, which has a history of brutally murdering Afghans who collaborated with the U.S. and other coalition forces during the conflict, has angered lawmakers and military officials. | Master Sgt. Donald R. Allen/U.S. Air Force via AP

U.S. officials in Kabul gave the Taliban a list of names of American citizens, green card holders and Afghan allies to grant entry into the militant-controlled outer perimeter of the city’s airport, a choice that's prompted outrage behind the scenes from lawmakers and military officials.

The move, detailed to POLITICO by three U.S. and congressional officials, was designed to expedite the evacuation of tens of thousands of people from Afghanistan as chaos erupted in Afghanistan’s capital city last week after the Taliban seized control of the country. It also came as the Biden administration has been relying on the Taliban for security outside the airport.

Since the fall of Kabul in mid-August, nearly 100,000 people have been evacuated, most of whom had to pass through the Taliban's many checkpoints. But the decision to provide specific names to the Taliban, which has a history of brutally murdering Afghans who collaborated with the U.S. and other coalition forces during the conflict, has angered lawmakers and military officials.

“Basically, they just put all those Afghans on a kill list,” said one defense official, who like others spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss a sensitive topic. “It’s just appalling and shocking and makes you feel unclean.”

If true, somebody needs to get fired.  Just when you think the decision makers can't get any stupider, they do.

Who or what do you bomb? It’s already a pile of rocks. Twenty years couldn’t beat them, not sure what else they could do different? It’s a total fubar now.

We beat the hell out of them, at every level, unlike the Soviets.

What we didn't do is eliminate them.

Elimination means eliminating support.

The Taliban/ISIS does not provide military equipment support.

Other operators do.

When we are ready to eliminate that support, we will end the problem.

One man's view.

Sorry, no you did not beat the he'll out of them. You are fighting an army without uniforms. 20 yrs and no knowledge of these terrorist groups. No infiltration.

You left behind more weapons and equipment.

2 trillion dollars, and they are shooting you in the back as you leave.

The money could have built a country not support the military contractors.

Now we have more dead military.

Let me ask you.  When was the last time you head anything about the Taliban prior to 2020?
