So, Allen is going to hit a lot more deep passes this year; combined with a better run game it will  force defenses to cover every single blade of grass all the time.

You have to turn your head as the defender.

Technically, no... If Knox had come back for the ball, then I think refs would call it. In this case Knox went straight up.

I could see it being called either way.

Last season Allen and Diggs seemed to have the PI play perfected where if Allen underthrew the deep ball, Diggs could easily draw the PI by coming back through the defender.

I wonder what the concern level is with Hollister? Beane loves availability and so far as far as I know he be been out each day. Back Injury?

Hollister seems like a direct replacement for Tyler Kroft.  Capable but average NFL level TE.   And will have trouble getting on the field due to injury.  Kroft did have 2 game winning TDs. So if Hollister does the same it won’t be all bad.

Sweeney or the UDFA from Bowling Green have a good chance to make the team.

Parrino story on today's practice:

It seems as though I've seen this movie before.  Wasn't "almost getting the the QB" Addison's theme song last season?

I seem to be the only one who thinks maybe this was PI

Diggs is the best WR in the NFL.  He does it all and does it better than anyone.

Matt Fairburn article in the Athletic on today’s practice

https://theathletic.com/2749969/2021/08/03/bills-training-camp-day-6-the-defense-forces-the-offense-out-of-rhythm-on-the-first-day-of-pads/?source=user_shared_article

A few comments that interested me

On the KR/PR game:

Quote

A few return bobbles

Both Brandon Powell and Marquez Stevenson muffed returns during a drill early in practice. No one bobble is going to cost a player in a competition, but with Isaiah McKenzie playing so well on offense and having a history of success as a returner, Powell and Stevenson need to be near perfect. The Bills will get some live reps in preseason games to see who stands out in this competition, but McKenzie has been so good as a receiver during camp that keeping him as the return man might be the best way to save a roster spot. We’ll see if someone can steal the job from McKenzie in the coming weeks.

Fairburn doesn’t explicitly say that McKenzie was also returning and fielded cleanly, but I guess he implies it

There’s a clip of Stevenson tackling a bigger player, turns out it’s Neal who picked him

Quote

The receivers were torching the defensive backs in one-on-one drills at the beginning of practice Tuesday. This drill tends to favor the offense because so much about coverage is a team concept. But you still typically see the occasional win from a defensive back. That came from Siran Neal, who managed a rare interception in this drill. While covering the speedy Marquez Stevenson, Neal didn’t allow him any separation and then fought for the ball to haul in an interception. A few reps later, Neal was beat deep by Isaiah McKenzie, but the rep against Stevenson showed a lot of what can make Neal valuable in coverage. He’s able to stick with players in the short and intermediate areas of the field and has the instincts to break on the ball. As he showed against McKenzie, covering fast receivers vertically isn’t his biggest strength, but there’s a spot for Neal in this defense.

Most press I have seen have praised Trubisky as solid and steady.  Fairburn seems to disagree, thinking that he’s inconsistent:

Quote

Mitchell Trubisky has been inconsistent to start training camp. Too many of his passes end up in harm’s way. We noted the interception during one-on-one drills, which was a terrific play by Neal. But later during team drills, Trubisky threw pass that should have been intercepted by Joe Giles-Harris. He’s had positive moments like two deep shots on Monday, one of which went for a touchdown to Isaiah Hodgins. The talent is there, but he’s still working out his command of the new offense. Once that comes, the consistency should follow. He still looks like an upgrade at backup quarterback and the team’s clear No. 2.

any word on how the BGSU TE looked?  I think he will be a surprise.

You can see Boettger and Feliciano on the field at the end of the highlight. Good sign that Ike is not quarantined and should be practicing soon

Assume you mean Quintin Morris?  Fairburn commented on him:

Quote

Quintin Morris makes a few plays

Jacob Hollister has been missing from practice with a back injury, and that has opened up opportunities for Quintin Morris, the undrafted rookie tight end. Morris had a pair of catches on Tuesday, including one from Allen that we mentioned. He’s also getting some work on special teams, which would be necessary if he is going to carve out a spot on this team. The practice squad seems like a more realistic end game for Morris, but he’s shown more potential than expected early on in training camp. He and Reggie Gilliam have both looked like useful pass-catchers.

I wouldn't discount the relationship that Hollister already has with Josh-- they were teammates at Wyoming, and Hollister plays no small part in Josh's highlight reel, but they are also close friends. And the chemistry is already there. That is especially true of Tanner Gentry, as well, although he obviously has a narrower path to the 53.

Can you imagine if we got Ertz, too? 🥶

Wowzers!  What a fan! Root some for me and thanks for going and good luck and have a fantastic time....

(I never saw the Bills in an away game, but if they ever go to LA, I am going to try hard to go....

I really hope we upgraded and win....what a win that would be for us. One of the biggest ones ever imho... The chefs are f***in' good and that's what would make it such a colossal W.

Go Bills!

I bet Gentry makes the PS though!!!  Josh CAN have his buddies here and close....I hope we don't have to activate him though... He'll probably be on there with.... Is duke out of qualifying for the PS?

I say Stevenson goes IR. Hodgins or Kumerow loser hopefully signs up with us... I understand Hodgins has more value in the form of potential but that sixth guy is going to play WR this year at some point and he is going to play STs.... So I'd go with the better player now unless they think Hodgins potential is high. Something to consider....

At TE, I cant help but hope we get Ertz. The Bills have to be a lot better than last year to beat the chefs and I think Ertz helps a lot in that regard. However, if it doesn't happen I'll be happy with who they end up with....Knox - Hollister - Sweeney?

Or does Singletary love a FB? IDK? Maybe? Or Daboll love having a TE? I doubt we keep him personally.

I have some family that recently moved to the KC area this year, and am seriously toying with the idea of going out there for a visit and the game—I know it would be epic to see the Bills win there .
