About 35,000 Hmong were recruited for the war effort. About 30,000 of them were They were key in thwarting attempts by the Vietnamese army to make major inroads into northern Laos and slowing the movement of supplies on the Ho Chi Minh Trail. ... As many as 20,000 Hmong soldiers died during the Vietnam War.

She did an amazing job yesterday

She did! I don't think she'll appreciate being used for anyone's political narrative though.

Well, the idiots take their lead from the cult leader:

So much for America first.

Scumbags

Awesome win in the Quarter Finals today, Megan Rapino smashing home the walk off, game winning penalty kick in extra time.

One game away from a potential rematch with Sweden, who took a knee with the US team in their group stage victory. I guess woke politics are good for the Swedes?

No, they won because they were faster, stronger, more aggressive and dominated the midfield. The US coach looked like a deer in headlights.

Looking forward to a second crack. Just have to beat Canada.

Sweden is rolling… might be unstoppable.

They look really good. But I have faith in our team. Especially if they can stay onside before scoring!

Hopefully they figure it out. Feels like they have to rely too much on some pretty old players and are running out of juice

She has written her own narrative… that’s the best part

Why are you so dense? Gymnastics isn't a team sport. Each athlete is competing against themselves. She didn't have her best stuff is the 1st round and the US finished 2nd.

She came out and had a nearly catestrophic landing on her vault. It isn't football, you can't punch the Russians in the mouth and steal their floor excercise to get another chance at scoring. Once you lose points you can't medal.

If there's a more apt sports analogy, it's like the Dodgers pulling their starting pitcher after the first inning of Game 6. Did he quit on his team? No, the Dodgers relief pitchers carried them to victory.

I want to see you do a two and and half flip with two rotations off the vault and not break your neck.

I disagree with your assessment.

Simone Biles is an incredible athlete and has accomplished amazing feats in gymnastics.  By the very nature of the sport, to get to the level she's gotten to, she has to be incredibly tough, determined, focused, strong and athletic.  I recall someone wrote that she finished a competition with broken toes.  Absolutely incredible.

That said...it would seem to me that warning signs were missed along the way.  As she approached the games, there was the talk about her GOAT inspired gear, and she discussed the very public and private pressure she felt going into these games.    To perform at that high a level, it seems at times these people are on the razor edge between exceptional performance and the unreasonable expectations they place upon themselves.

I don't care much one way or the other about the games.  I used to love the allure of amateur athletes in the spirit of competition, but it just seems to me it's pretty much down to what country has the better professionals at any given moment in time (at least for the most popular events).  However, she's been amazing, the timing of her withdrawal is a shame, and I hope she's alright in the long run.  Seems like a nice young lady.

Most socialists are political elites that quietly know it’s their best ticket to even more wealth and power and then their naive lemmings who buy into “free everything for everyone” as a plausible reality.

Like AOC with her 200k/year and two homes, or Millionaire Bernie.

American socialists are mostly upper class intellectuals, children of a wealthy upbringing, unemployable college graduates, or others living off some trust fund.  You won't find many people that have real jobs among their ranks.  Most make a living in the imaginary world of academics or from some grant or government program.  What a lot of us might refer to as moochers that get paid a lot but produce nothing of any value they could offer others in trade for pay.  The fact they have no comprehension of the concepts of producing some product or having some skill that somebody else is willing to pay for in a market type economy reflects their views and ideas which seem so preposterous to those of us that need to earn a paycheck or run a business to support ourselves and our families.

The core of their ideology is a belief in their moral, ethical, and intellectual superiority of themselves and their peers.  This drives everything.  Listening to their arguments gives a clue.  As they are so smart it makes no sense to believe anyone else is capable of thinking for themselves or producing any ideas that can possibly and under no circumstances be better.  As they are superior it makes sense they should decide everything about how society, politics, the economy, and culture should operate.  And how everything is divided up and shared.  A system where their share is bigger than everybody else's share.  Questioning them merely proves how completely inferior the rest of us are to their omnipotence. The are mostly condescending and unhappy people living a joyless life.

One could argue sometimes goats don’t know when to quit even when they should.

Learning more what twisties  mean,  Biles was right to pull out . I now feel sorry for her  she already reached greatness . Glad that Lee could take her place.

I forgot.  Who was the Bills player that quit the team at halftime a few years ago.  Based on the prevailing opinion on Biles is he due a lot of apologies now as I recall he was endlessly reamed out for bailing.

But seriously, with Biles I wonder if the absence of family and support because of the COVID restrictions left her isolated and in some way unfocused?  I have no strong opinion on her decision and in my thinking the only opinion that matters is that of her teammates.
