Jake Kumerow… make the team or trade to GB?

Its tough to find clips of just WRs blocking but we got good effort from our WRs all year

Great block. But I wonder how much longer that will be legal. They just banned cut blocks within the TE box. I could see that expanded to the rest of the field soon. If that happens, it will seriously impact the effectiveness of receivers and running backs in blocking.

EDIT: Actually the cut blocks are ONLY legal within the TE box now, so the change is already there. It will really impact blocking assignments for running backs and receivers going forward.

Everybody is sleeping on Marquez Stevenson. He was drafted in the same round as Hodgins was last season and 99.9% of Bills fans are strangely raving about and penciling in Hodgins on the 53 while cutting Stevenson - when they've both played the same amount of snaps in the NFL.

I feel that Stevenson's strengths of speed and return ability are needed more in this WR core than Hodgins size and red zone ability. McKenzie has shown a proclivity for fumbling in the return game throughout his career. They generally rolled out Micah Hyde to return Punts over him. There's a reason why a specialist was drafted this season.

The way I see it, Marquez Stevenson, Isaiah Hodgins, and Jake Kumerow are battling for one spot. I tend to feel that Kumerow making the 53 is pretty much slim to none - short of injuries or something else unforeseen. I think they hope he'll be on our Practice Squad to call up in the event of injury. Which means GB can sign him to their 53 whenever they want anyways.

I'd get on the phone with them now. If you can get something for him, do it. I like Touchdown Jesus quite a bit. But if you can get an asset for someone you'll lose for nothing anyways - get ahead of the game.

Stevenson has a shot but he would have to flat out win the return job. Anything else and I think he has a year on the PS.

Isn't it based on safety? Cut blocks outside the box haven't been as much of an issue.

That new rule is very tricky when you read the actual rule..

The approved proposal illegalizes blocking below the waist by offensive and defensive players on scrimmage downs when contact occurs beyond five yards on either side of the line of scrimmage and more than two yards outside of either offensive tackle

Sounds like it's only legal inside the Tightend box now... Illegal down field

So all I have really taken from these comments is

A) Is there that much interest and urgency in flipping Kumerow for a late round pick?
B) We have had Mcdermott here awhile now, do we think he’s all of a sudden changed? Special teams players have been a huge part of his roster building every year and I don’t think that’ll change this year. I don’t know much about Hodgins outside hearing his catch radius is crazy good but Kumerow plays special teams and has been quite good at the dirty work some receivers don’t like doing.

Make the team... we need his skill set imo

We have so much talent in the bottom of our WR room but I don't know if any of them could be even a #3 in the NFL....

They are right there at the fringe of that (#3) I think.....But who knows? Gotta give them a chance.

We have Stevenson, Lenoir, Kumerow and Hodgins that all offer tempting nfl level talent, imho. Gentry maybe too?

I think Hodgins has that classic NFL size and athleticism that perhaps he could be a star. Stevenson is 2" bigger than McKenzie but offers similar speed and quickness (I think). Kumerow doesn't have those long arms or athleticism and jumping ability but he has more experience....If both were to make it you couldn't call Buffalo WRs tiny anymore with Davis, Kumerow and Hodgins. Especially if they actually played Kumerow and Hodgins. I think we play all our weapons under Daboll though and as aside, I think we miss Daboll when he's gone more than anyone realizes. I don't know if our underlings understand exactly what Daboll does. Or if they are willing to put in all the film work. Do they know what they are looking for? I sure hope do but I have reservations....

This is our most talented roster under McD that is for sure. You're absolutely right about our emphasis on STs but given more competition (we never had a really deep roster before) it will be interesting to see what we do. Are you intimating Kumerow is a lock due to his ST play? I gotta admit I didn't notice or forgot Kumerow on STs. Was he noticeable?

Talk about this problem it is going to come to a head at DE with Daryl Johnson an excellent STer and not really getting better at DE.... Man, what are we going to do along the whole DL?!  Carry 12? LOL, Talk about keeping guys for STs .... I don't know how effective our DL can be on STs? I hope next year we are great along the DL. Hoping AJ, Ed, Boogie And Groot are solid keepers and with Addison, Star, and Jerry coming off the books Beane can add an impact player perhaps?

And we draft another DL.... We could be dominant there with any luck (and skill).

Are we going to catch the chefs eventually? Look at Tremaine, Ed, AJ, Boogie And Groot. Can Beane draft?

We'll See....

I just read Peter King say we reached for Groot but 2 or 3 DL went right after Groot. We just started the run but we had better of gotten the best one.

Oh no I don’t think Kumerow is a lock at all. But he may get the nod over Hodgins because of special teams play if the last spot is between them two.
I was more referring to a couple comments about cutting Taiwan Jones who I totally understand takes a roster spot us fans would like to use for Breida or another receiver or something on gameday. But I think Taiwan is a lock to make the team, I also think there’s going to be intense battles on this message board if Moss, motor and Jones are active every week and Breida sits like Yeldon.

Keep Kumerow. He's my 6th WR right now, and even if he's cut we need 3 WRs on PS and can protect 4 players.

Jake Kumrow probably won't make this team. Why would the Packers trade for a guy that will be cut?

Bills can protect 4 players on PS as well. He will likely make the team or one of those spots.

I of course would rather trade him then cut him

Who do you cut to keep him?   Hodgins is going to end up being our Kumerow

Clairvoyant??

I need to see Hodgins do something first. He is their own pick so he has that but Kumerow contributed a bit both on offense and teams last year. Hodgins needs to ball out in camp and pre-season to make the roster IMO.

Thank you Gunner. Aaron Rodgers said he was the second best WR in their training camp, conceivably behind Davante Adams. Jake has made plays in the NFL. Hodgins hasn’t, as of yet.

Imagine throwing a hissy fit and threatening retirement for three months over Randall Cobb and Jake Kumerow.

Imagine asking for so little and the team struggling to agree to bend even that far

Maybe Antonio Williams can solve the argument???  He played STs in college for certain, so he might be pretty good at that plus he looked fantastic vs. Miam...... I'm rooting for another Williams to make the Bills for sure. He might be another Fredddy who knows? I like him, a lot.

i would look to trade Moss if I can get a third and a sixth, and go with Singletary (He's the best first down back of the bunch and I think he gets his 5.1 again to lead the league. (Pretty bold, huh?)

Williams becomes change of pace plus short yardage. Breida becomes a guy Daboll draws up TD plays for, and Wade goes to the regular PS where he can be called up when needed. If we can't get what I want for Moss we obviously keep him and Breida doesn't make it and hopefully all three play RB and STs and I'm telling you, Moss has zero problem playing STs either. I just don't know if he would be too useful?

Oh yeah, my bad. You're right. So it has basically already happened. It's going to have a big impact.

I was wrong, it's actually ONLY permitted within the TE box now, so it actually is illegal to cut block on the outside like that. So yeah, the Diggs block would be illegal this coming season.

It's going to be very interesting to see how teams adjust.
