Jake Kumerow… make the team or trade to GB?

Well, Beane has gotten draft picks for worse players who were 100% going to get cut. It could happen.

Yeah but usually the reason a team makes a trade for a player likely to be cut is to make sure 100% they got him.  In this case if we were to cut him, high likelihood GB would make the best offer and Rodgers would be on the phone with him so can't see Green Bay giving up anything in a trade.

On the other hand if some other team wanted him could see them swooping in with a trade to grab him before Green Bay has a chance

If Kumerow is worth Aaron Rodgers throwing a hissy fit over, he has to be good enough for a spot on Bills roster. He didn’t get the moniker “Touchdown Jesus” for nothing

One reason that players sometimes have success in the red zone is that the other team is focused on shutting down the “stars” and lose track of the guys further down the depth chart.  I would say that our TE room had several TDs that would fit that category last season

I think Kumerow could make it here. I think the 6th spot is most likely him or Hodgins.

Everybody is sleeping on Marquez Stevenson. He was drafted in the same round as Hodgins was last season and 99.9% of Bills fans are strangely raving about and penciling in Hodgins on the 53 while cutting Stevenson - when they've both played the same amount of snaps in the NFL.

I feel that Stevenson's strengths of speed and return ability are needed more in this WR core than Hodgins size and red zone ability. McKenzie has shown a proclivity for fumbling in the return game throughout his career. They generally rolled out Micah Hyde to return Punts over him. There's a reason why a specialist was drafted this season.

The way I see it, Marquez Stevenson, Isaiah Hodgins, and Jake Kumerow are battling for one spot. I tend to feel that Kumerow making the 53 is pretty much slim to none - short of injuries or something else unforeseen. I think they hope he'll be on our Practice Squad to call up in the event of injury. Which means GB can sign him to their 53 whenever they want anyways.

I'd get on the phone with them now. If you can get something for him, do it. I like Touchdown Jesus quite a bit. But if you can get an asset for someone you'll lose for nothing anyways - get ahead of the game.

I do recall seeing rodgers throw a TD to JK in the regular season in GB.  Josh threw one to him also.  But, JK did round trip to NO last season as the Bills cut him free once.  Hodgkins really has to show he is a player though, we already know JK is.  Prediction:  Hodgkins cut and to the PS.  JK makes it to the 53.

Is this a joke? We would be lucky to get a 6th. With the depth we have he's a long shot to even make the team.

kind of a joke, kind of serious.  not sure how desperate GB is to make Rodgers happy.

He is already a cut for me to keep talent at another spot on the team

He's one of our core Special Teamers and was re-signed this offseason for that very reason. Not gonna happen. Especially when you consider we're already probably going to have to cut one of our other core Special Teamers in Daryl 'Bam Bam' Johnson from a pure numbers standpoint at Defensive End.

I know.  How dare Lee Smith catch TDs where some WRs got none.

Bills have a tradition of some big special teamers.  Mark Pike was one of my favorites and he showed up in playoff games.

Think the guy has skill, would like to see him in the team.  Very least, PS.

That being said, if GB wanted him, they had a chance to grab him for free when we waived him last season.  Had to know it stuck in Rodgers craw he was released.  With the practice squad rules last year, wouldn’t have been an issue to sign him and stash him there at the very least.

I think it will be him or Johnson.....not both

Agree, but there is some film out there of Kumerow laying the lumber blocking.  He can block (for a tall skinny guy)

Its tough to find clips of just WRs blocking but we got good effort from our WRs all year

That was the design a lot of times. Like, almost all of Lee Smith's TD's were designed to go to him to catch the defense off guard. I remember one that had Diggs running wide open, but Allen threw it to Smith when he slipped out unnoticed because that was the design.

But yeah, your point is valid. Just, sometimes it isn't because the defense is covering the stars, it's because the play design purposefully targets other players.
