Just seen on NFLN that GB WR Devin Funchess was put on IR and out for the season.

I remember when Aaron was making them get Cobb.  If they didn't they would be in a bigger problem then they are now at WR.

If Funchess (even if he had stayed healthy) was their idea of getting Rodgers help...

The long term future of that guy, which for the next four to six years will probably correspond well with the long term success of the whole franchise, is way way more important than winning (very likely losing, actually) one game in a season in which the team will not compete for a championship.

Sit him, work on his mechanics and his understanding of the game, and do it for the whole year if you think that's what will work best for him long-term. Follow the Mahomes plan.

Maybe.  But Nagy is on the hot seat and probably won't survive a 7-9 Andy Dalton season.  The only way he survives is if Fields plays and shows promise and the team wins a reasonable number of games...

I don't know if he's on the "hot seat" or not, but yeah you can bet when (not if) Dalton struggles, he will for sure Call Fields in. If true about hot seat, then would also do it just to hopefully save his job.

Which is my point.  Before they were practically forced to get Cobb Funchess was probably fighting for WR3-4.

Nagy's definitely on the hot seat; no maybe about it.  Ownership might give him a reprieve if he rolls with a rookie QB and the team struggles a bit; it's a built-in excuse for a head coach.  No such leniency if Dalton plays most of the year and they suck...

After Adams they're all 3-4 WRs.  Even Cobb.

While that's certainly one outcome, it's far from the only one. And if they were smart, the folks above Nagy would rein him in on that logic and tell him to value the long-term over the short-term here. From how it looks, they may already have started that.

You're very right that there may well be pressure on Nagy. There's nearly always pressure on people to make stupid decisions based on short-term logic. Many decisions are made based on that kind of awful process. But the fact that there was a lot of pressure doesn't make the bad decisions any better.

Yeah would be the best thing for sure. Especially if that OL continues to play like they did against mostly Bills back ups.

Yup. Good point about their OL.

I still think David Carr could have been a really good QB if he hadn't been systematically mishandled and forced into a case of PTSD.

A quote from that article about possible player cuts:

Vernon Butler

Buffalo Bills · DT

The former Panthers first-round pick could get squeezed out in a deep Bills defensive line.

I like Isabella FWIW

I don't know much about him.  That's why I read the article and then I found that comment on Butler.
