Yeah, it doesn't really make sense long term. They're definitely drafting someone next year. Maybe it works out, maybe it doesn't.

They really have been very mediocre since they won the Super Bowl in Peyton's last season. They never make a good decision on a QB. They were in position to draft Josh Allen at pick 5 when they didn't have much at QB and instead went with a defensive player. Now they are stuck in a division with Mahomes and possibly another talented QB in Herbert and they bench a young QB with some promise for a mediocre starter in Bridgewater. The Broncos aren't just bad they are directionless bad. 2
Doc Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 Bridgewater starting means Lock is done as their starting QB and likely as a starting QB in theNFL. The question now is whether Bridgewater is their QB of the future and that remains to be seen.

I wouldn't write off Lock just yet as I think that within six weeks Bridgewater is likely to lose that starting job and Lock in my opinion could see 8ish starts as if the Broncos are sub .500 with Bridgewater (which is likely) they will probably throw Lock in just to see what they have with him one last time. If Lock performs well in those starts he could get another shot to compete for a job.

Just since 2018, they've passed on Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, Justin Fields, and Mac Jones. Imagine pairing that Broncos defense under Vic Fangio with a guy like Lamar Jackson? They'd be perennial playoff contenders. Instead they're in quarterback purgatory with Bridgewater, who looks more like a great backup, and Lock, who looks like discount Jay Cutler. 1 hour ago, MJS said: Wow. I just don't see the point. I bet Broncos fans are not happy. I think it really depends on whether or not the GM actually thought he had a shot at Aaron Rodgers for this year or next year. You might take a chance and skip a QB if you honestly believe that Rodgers is you future because then a QB drafted this year becomes a waste. Now passing on Allen or even Jackson was stupid and the fans should be ticked, but my guess is they would have gone Rosen and screwed even that up.
Ridgewaycynic2013 Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 Broncos: next stop on the 2021 'Josh Rosen: Vindication!' tour.

You are most likely correct that Lock will likely be a career backup, however I do think he gets some starts this year and if he does well in then he could get another starting opportunity in Denver or elsewhere.
CorkScrewHill Posted August 26, 2021 Posted August 26, 2021 Interesting name on this list of cut candidates from NFL.com.. Obviously Vernon Butler is on here .. but so is Shaq Lawson. He did very well at the end of his time with buffalo, but he was already traded and now a cut candidate? I saw he is running second team on the TEXANS .. yikes. Not what you want to see out of a 3 yr - $30 million dollar man. https://www.nfl.com/news/2021-nfl-roster-bubble-notable-players-who-could-be-traded-or-cut If he is cut .. I seriously doubt there will be a reunion unless we have a rash of injuries as the young fellas appear to be outstanding.

What’s Aaron Donald going to do to him? Kill him? Under the new rules, AD is barely allowed to breathe on him. Anyway, Fields was the starting QB for Ohio State, ffs. I think he can handle it. The long term future of that guy, which for the next four to six years will probably correspond well with the long term success of the whole franchise, is way way more important than winning (very likely losing, actually) one game in a season in which the team will not compete for a championship. Sit him, work on his mechanics and his understanding of the game, and do it for the whole year if you think that's what will work best for him long-term. Follow the Mahomes plan.

Follow the Mahomes plan They will sit him (according to the HC). But I'd bet he won't sit long at all. Seems like there's a lot of pressure there with pretty much everyone calling for Fields to start. I think HC gives in sooner than later and puts him on the field. Especially if Dalton struggles early and often. Edited August 26, 2021 by Sheneneh Jenkins

ColoradoBills Posted August 26, 2021 Posted August 26, 2021 Just seen on NFLN that GB WR Devin Funchess was put on IR and out for the season. I remember when Aaron was making them get Cobb. If they didn't they would be in a bigger problem then they are now at WR.
