i finally went to bar bill around a month ago, and was a little disappointed. 7/10. Went with medium hot. I always go with some variation of hot, no matter where I go. The flavor had something in it that just didn't sit well with me, or maybe it was the bleu cheese? They also weren't really crispy at all.

I want my wings to be crispy, and I want them to have a flavor profile that reflects something similar to Franks and butter. I don't know what spices some of these places are throwing in them to make them "better" but I don't need them.

fwiw, i think the sauce is easy enough to nail for most places. the biggest thing is what places cook them to the right crispiness every time.

Original location or Bar Bill North?

Had them at North and was completely disappointed.  Those wings would get a 5/10 from me.

Outside of mine?  Recent favorite when I'm in town is Wellington Pub.  I like many of the others in the list as well.

For mine I cold smoke for 4 hours then fry then toss in sauce.  Habanero carrot sauce w honey is my second go to after the traditional.

That’s because many “fans” became “fans” within the last year.

I still can't fathom anyone becoming a Bills fan who is not from Buffalo and born into the situation.

That's really weird.

Anchor Bar is universally known as a joke of a wing spot. Terrible wings... good marketing.

Duffs is good, but you need more than one legitimate option on the poll.

Anchor Bar is still the best.  Do you even get downtown to try them?

I only used Duff and Anchor to get it started.  I was more curious to get a list of all the best places for those of us coming up there a few times over the next few months and expand our options.  I think that Duffs has become too commercial, but the kids love it and it's close for a post game stop.  I'm doing a few games without the kids and staying the weekend, so I want to see all the other places people deem legit

If you want to see the visiting crews (TV) doing games particularly on a Monday Night, you will see them at the Anchor Bar.  That is where they will congregate.

i always loved gabriel's gate wings, but i'm partial because i lived a block up.

I had some at Gabriel's when I was home back in October...they were obscenely delicious.

Personally, I think people underrate Anchor Bar, and overrate Duff's.  Neither is my favorite (Gabriel's Gate, Kelly's Korner, McParland's, Bob & John's or La Hacienda for me), but Anchor is actually really good, when they are on. They aren't always on though.

I honestly don't like Duff's, at all. I didn't grow up on them, and only had them when I would come home after not living in WNY for years.  I was really disappointed...their reputation far exceeds their quality for me.

Elmo’s was our favorite when we were there week 1.  Our list of wing stops was Bar-Bill, Elmo’s, Duff’s, and Anchor Bar.  Elmo’s won.

For an unpopular opinion:  Buffalo does NOT have the best roast beef sandwiches, nor is it even close.  Beef on Weck is meh, pretty bland and boring.  We were a bit surprised and disappointed at how over hyped it was and honestly probably would not order again when back in Buffalo over other many delicious options there like wings, pizza, etc.

And for the record, we love roast beef sandwiches, but even though we allegedly had one of the best at Bar-Bill, we just found it to be a let down.

Buffalo had the best wings for sure, and a lot of other delicious food.  However, the Beef on Weck would be like a 4 or 5 out of ten compared to many places here serving Roast Beef sandwiches that are 9’s and 10’s all day long.

If your beef on weck was bland, then someone didn't make it right.  I'm not sure how salt, caraway seeds, horseradish and au jus could possibly be bland.

Just out of curiosity where are you getting these way better roast beef sandwiches at?

To name a couple of my faves:  Phillips’s and also Coles, both in Downtown LA to name a couple.  Both places claim to have created the French Dip actually.

To give perspective…if I ranked them a 10 then the beef on Weck we had at Bar-Bill would probably be about a 6.  Not trying to be a downer, we loved everywhere we ate in Buffalo, just the beef on Weck didn’t like up to the hype for us.  I was expecting one of the best roast beef sandwiches we had, and it just wasn’t anything special.

Another fave of mine is my local dive bar in my beach community called MO’s.  Funny story, the owner Mo is who “Moe” from the Simpsons is based on.  Also same place they filmed the first Sharknado haha although it being waterfront was CGI, it’s actually like 200 feet from the ocean.

Honestly…Beef had no flavor.   Not bad, just forgettable.  Star of a roast beef sandwich should be the beef IMHO.

Bumping just to say last night my family went to Anchor Bar, the original. I had the extreme hot wings. Maybe I'm weird, but I didn't find their extreme hot wings too hot. I ate the entire order without any eye watering or lip tingling. Our waitress was quite impressed however.

If I can recommend a local selection that has phenomenal wings that aren't as well known

I would say Macy's place on Genesee street cheektowaga

Citrus Chipotle bbq extra crispy char pit are to die for

WRONG

You have to go to Charlie the Butchers or else this review is invalid (Probably a couple other places too)

-The beef has to be Red in the middle

-You have to put lots of fresh horseradish (not horsey sauce)

-get some au jus

You probably did none of the above

It’s super easy to cook a small roast and make the au jus. Beef broth, bay leaf, rosemary, salt, pepper, maybe a little red wine to splash in. Then just buy the buns. You can make it exactly how you want it without having to go out to a restaurant and hope it’s good 😊

I ordered their suicide wings and bbq. The BBQ were hotter

I've had pretty much every BoW in the Buffalo area. Bar bill and Charlie the butcher have a good sandwich but I wouldn't call any BoW I've had "great". I agree with alpha, they're pretty bland. I use it as a reason to eat horseradish.

Beef on Wick, is not really just a "roast beef sandwich" so, your "star" concept is misplaced.

Anyone ever order Bocce pizza that lives out of state? They do nationwide delivery and man I’ve been craving that.

Tried it last night in the Chicago area...Good stuff!

im not a beef on weck guy. don't like the seeds. im one of those people who orders the sandwich but ask for a regular bun. I can only chip in that I have heard from some BoW connoisseurs that Bar Bill is in fact superior to Charlie the Butcher.

THe simple french dip with the melted cheese and au jus is my favorite way to do a beef sandwich.
