Worst name and worst logo in baseball.  Likely in all professional sports.  Horrible.

Well, there’s always the Cavaliers and the Browns.

Exactly where I live.

here’s the thing though - putting hurt feelings completely aside, the name “Indian” is completely stupid, wrong, and anachronistic. We got the name indian because a 15th century European explorer made a geographical error. There’s a reason we don’t call Native Americans indians anymore - it doesn’t make any sense.

They should change the name of Indiana too.

Can't be as bad as a team that makes me think I just pulled into the Gulf station.

This just in....if you ever watched the movie Major League and laughed , you best make up for your past mistakes. I'd recommend blowing all your money at a native American casino

Buffalo “Bills” doesnt make sense either. The 49ers name is irrelevant now. There aren’t any lakes in Los Angeles. Let’s change all the names

None are as inaccurate as indians. Bills makes sense if you know the story. 49ers isn’t based on an idiotic mistake - the gold rush actually happened. Lakers at least points to the history of the team before moving to LA.

And yes - none of those names are offensive like indian is to many. I was just pointing out the name is dumb for more reasons than just “the wokes are upset about it.”

This is terrible. Worst name in professional sports. That logo looks like a 12 year olds doodle too. Unreal. And what are they guarding lol? The galaxy lol. Poverty name as the kids say.

Bunch of Bull.  Indians can’t be represented in sports.  Just Wow.
so Red Sox and white Sox should dump there name.
patriots should have to change name also.

its too passive.  Like "defenders" or something.  More appropriate to a sport where defense is played, like soccer or hockey.

It also has no relation to Cleveland or to that sport.  And not catchy.

Maybe it was the only thing left that hadnt been claimed by trademark squatters.

In another 10 years when another innocuous term becomes offensive we can do it all again.....should make for some good banter when the "Fighting Irish" are next on the chopping block.

Lame name.
What are they “guarding”?

Should have gone back to the Spiders if anything.

The name is clearly a nod to the giant guardian statues everyone sees flanking the highway as you enter Cleveland.

Here’s a picture if you’re interested at all in learning something. These art deco statues on the Hope Memorial Bridge are the inspiration for the name and logo.

"Guardians of Traffic" ... The Hope Memorial Bridge over the Cuyahoga River that terminates at Progressive Field. The Art Deco sculptures that are the guardians of traffic.

Transit through that: @BringBackFergy 😆

I like the name! 😆🤣

Defense is played in Baseball.   Can't win if you aren't able to score.  The pitcher is the ultimate guardian of the mound, with catcher,  guard home plate!

The Hope Memorial Bridge terminates short of the field:

From Wiki:

"...The bridge connects Lorain Avenue on Cleveland's west side and Carnegie Avenue on the east side, terminating just short of Progressive Field. Pairs of statues designed by sculptor Henry Hering and architect Frank Walker – officially named the Guardians of Traffic[3] – stand on pylons at each end of the viaduct, symbolizing progress in transportation.[4] On July 23, 2021, the professional baseball team in Cleveland announced that they will change their name to the Cleveland Guardians, at the end of the 2021 season, in honor of the Guardians of Traffic."
