Expand Our friend fails to inform us that ultimately even "elected" socialist systems degenerate into the dictatorship model. The reality that the most productive members of society will choose to exit such a situation must be dealt with by forcing them to stay. And as democratic societies work they generally do not share this characteristic. So government force and coercion becomes a necessity. But the fatal flaw of socialism and communism is they ultimately descend into the equal distribution of nothing. Poverty for everyone but the political elite. If you want a firsthand assessment find somebody like my acquaintances that grew up under the Soviet system and watched it fall prior to emigrating the US. They think the lefties here are at best naive idiots and at worst a danger to freedom and democracy to desire such a system. 3

I have spent many, many of days in Venezuela and watched what has happened first hand. I am well aware of their political system. I am well aware of Jimmy Carter going down there to judge their elections, elections that were "democratically" conducted, as he endorsed them. Otherwise, he would not have gone.
