welp.

"The Sarasota Herald-Tribune reports that teachers have been instructed to remove all books from their classroom libraries that have not yet been approved by a certified media specialist." and is being reported by Alejandra Caraballo on twitter

The message that the district sent out states that the material must be, “free of pornography” and “appropriate for the age level and group.”  that sounds horrible.

It all sounds like some administrators and teachers creating story for political reasons.

What false information, exactly?

Are all books appropriate for all ages?  Of course not. There are books that kids should just not be reading and that's what is being done.  I mean we have ratings on movies don't we?

I think we can all agree that students at younger ages should not be exposed to certain levels of more mature content.  I don't know the exact deadline of when you can start introducing educational material ( I hope we can all agree that school age students should never be exposed to random sexually explicit things).  The issue here is now an appointed "expert"  is the one determining these things.  Showing nude anatomy for educational purposes at the appropriate age should be taught and encouraged, not banned.  Appointing an "expert" that simply agrees with your party on all the issues in and of itself makes this political.

I can't disagree with that. but at this point, we have yet to see if any of those (anatomy as science) are being unfairly removed.

I looked up the bluest eye as that's one of the books on the list.  it sounds like a good book, for kids old enough to understand the allegories and symbolisms.

"I destroyed white baby dolls. But the dismembering of dolls was not the true horror. The truly horrifying thing was the transference of the same impulses to little white girls. The indifference with which I could have axed them was shaken only by my desire to do so."

"Sort of." "He showed his privates to you?" "Noooo. He touched me." "Where?" "Here and here." She pointed to her tiny breasts that, like two fallen acorns, ...

Even Time did an entire series on the ten top book controversies in 2007, that book was on it.

Seems like that would be a good book for advanced or high school kids

Name one reason to ban the books that they are. I’ll wait.

I don’t have to name a reason… I’m just a working class guy from upstate NY…So frankly, I don’t give a damn what’s going on in Florida, just like I couldn’t care less about what’s going on in California…

The only people who need to give a reason are the Florida governor, the state legislature, and the people who voted them into office…👍

The ink on the Mark Twain books was barely dry when I first read them.

Why do you think 6 year olds should be allowed to read books about where to stick their penis?

No.

You don't get to play childish games, where you simply continue down your fairy-tale path.

There are multiple references to what is in the books that have been deemed inappropriate for schoolchildren in almost every link provided here.

It is  was happening and that is why the State education board stepped in.

Play the fool if you want to Roundy, but don't expect us to dance along with you.

Lol sure, the nazis really hated physics.

The actual slippery slope is allowing such filth to be read by anyone in the first place. The kentler project is the intellectual child of Weimar era thought.
