They put Singletary as the 31st running back???

”The Bills have had a real problem with their run game and they need a reliable player at the position. Devin Singletary and Zack Moss have each had their moments but neither player has shown any consistency. Right now, Josh Allen is the best rusher on the team. That really bothers me as a former running back. The Bills' backfield really needs to step it up, and Singletary has the most experience. The time is now.”

The disrespect is getting unruly. It seems that every national media outlet continuously finds a way to take a dump on Buffalo. No one ever acknowledges us as the biggest competitor to the Chiefs.

It’s clear that Singletary is a top 5 RB with Moss not far behind. Smh as always it’s Buffalo vs Everybody.

You do realize it’s “clear” that Singletary is not very good, right?  He’s slow and can’t catch a screen pass in pressure situations.

They were 20th out of 32 teams. Sucked is kinda strong, but it's your opinion and certainly justified as they were definitely underwhelming. They did have better numbers than 4 other playoff teams including the SB champs. Scheme and play design is as much of a factor as personnel.

I agree with you.  They seem to run a strange mix of stretch plays and straight power runs.  Both Singletary and Moss seem to get better results from the straight power runs.  It may be that neither has the speed to beat the pursuit to the outside on stretch plays.  It may also be that the o-line doesn't handle a zone blocking scheme very well.  I believe most of the blame should be on the running play design and the o-line performance. Since the Bills didn't draft another running back, it seams that Beane and McD may see it the same way.  It's incumbent on Daboll to see where the running game breaks down and make changes.  He also needs to call enough running plays to make the play action passes seem like a plausible threat.

For so many of our “drought” years, the Bills had a very highly ranked running game. Top 5 on many occasions. McCoy, Fred Jackson, Lynch et al. It got us nowhere. Sure it would be great to have both a top passing offense AND a top running offense, but that rarely happens, for many good reasons. It should be clear to all that in the modern NFL, it’s the passing offense that carries the day. Time to stop obsessing about our poor run game - we were one game from the Super Bowl with our current offense.

That right there is spot on. Until those 2 units get in sync the underwhelming results will continue. It's on Daboll to ease up on the pass happy love affair and establish a competent run game to keep defenses honest.

I'm just curious: by what metric is this clear?

Singletary was 28th in Y/A and Moss 34 in Y/A last year.  #37 and #43 in YPG which is arguably beyond their control in how many rushing attempts we had.

I agree with Beane that it's unfair to single out the backs for the problems with the run game, but no question, they were part of the problem.

By various metrics, Kyler Murray is the best rusher for AZ, Deshaun Watson is the best rusher for HOU, and Lamar Jackson is the best rusher for BAL; does that bother him as a former running back too?  Or does it only bother him when the QB is Allen?

The problem with this isn't disparaging the Bills' run game, it's holding Singletary almost solely responsible for its failure.

My god, we only scored 500 points last year!

Our RB's suck!

Our OL sucks!

Better get Daboll to start calling better plays!

We can't close out games!

The sky is falling!

SMFH

Nobody is saying that.   Not even remotely.

Expectations change.  It’s now about staying on top of the AFCE and beating the other Super Bowl contenders.

Run blocking, running backs and tight end play are all question marks heading into the season.

Clearly we can still compete at a high level given an above average pass blocking OL, the ability and potential of Josh Allen, in addition to our stable of WR’s - but more out of the other elements and/or our Defense will be required to get past a team like Kansas City.

Singletary is probably outside of the top 40 RBs.

There are multiple teams that have a 3rd string RB arguably better than Singletary.  Broncos, Bucs, Ravens, Raiders, and Jags come to mind.

He's probably not and he wrote it in this way because he knew people would respond to it.

This.

Plus, frankly, the Bills don’t gaf about the running game. We have ‘The Enigma’ at QB who will get every tough yard needed during a game. Ask Pete Carroll, Mike Tomlin, Nick Fangio or that has-been in Miami, Flores how concerned they are.

We’re rewriting the rules, OP. Use ‘the Bull’ to run when he feels like it. Light up the skies otherwise.

Running game was a joke. Our best back was Antonio Williams.

One of my only criticisms of McDermott is sticking with the depth chart instead of running with the hot hand at RB last year.
