Bill from NYC Posted April 26, 2005 Posted April 26, 2005 JP was a late first round pick. He made contact with a defensive back in preseason and was almost killed. The following are some of the things I have seen posted here about him..... 1) He has been likened favorably to Joe Montana. 2) He will solve the Travis Henry dilemna by calling TH "Big Cat." 3) It was said that he can make ANY throw. I guess this includes 80 yard TDs ala randall Cunningham. 4) The Bills will score more points in 05 because of JP, 1st year or not. 5) Calling some poor hapless kid "Big Cat" is a sign of "leadership." Many were so touched by this quote, they chose it for a nickname, no matter how corny or lame it sounds. 6) He is better than Manning, Rivers or Big Ben. The above is a VERY partial list. My point is, since coming to TBD I cannot remember any player getting all this love for such abysmal production to date. This begs the question....Why? Is it utter glee just to be rid of Bledsoe, or do posters truly believe this nonsense above?
ajzepp Posted April 26, 2005 Posted April 26, 2005 I never get tired of reading your posts.....lol Let me ask you this: Do you think the fact that Dan Marino sustained a season ending injury simply by dropping back ON GRASS was any indication of his durability?
CoachChuckDickerson Posted April 26, 2005 Posted April 26, 2005 To eat bread without hope is to slowly starve to death.

I was thinking of this the other day. They always say the hardest position in sports is replacing a legend at QB. Is the opposite of that replacing one of the worst QBs then the easiest job in sports. I think most fans, including myself, will view every mistake that JP makes (all two of them) and say, Drew would have made that same play even worse. This kid is going to have the easiest break in period of all time
Alaska Darin Posted April 26, 2005 Posted April 26, 2005 Not sure which is worse, bashing a guy who hasn't played or deifying same. Joe Theisman? Sheesh.

I think that TH is beyond solving. The best JP can do is ignore. 3. I'd like to see JP try that pass. He has a cannon for an arm. 4. Yes, I fully think that the Bills offense will score more points this year. Please note that I didn't include defense and special teams. 5. The kid was not poor or hapless, he was rude and disrespectful. I don't like the nickname idea. 6. I guarantee that he will end up better than one of those guys. He hasn't gotten "love" as you put it. He has given us hope and a spark when our offense needs it. Bledsoe brought a similar spark a few years back. Why you ask? Because it is a change. It is putting a solid arm in our team. We've been looking for the second coming of Jimbo for some time, and we hope it's in JP. Finally, I don't agree that it is utter glee that Bledsoe is gone. I'll miss him and I wish him the best.

To answer your question, I think that Dan Marino proved himself to be an all time great. It took more than a stupid remark to some little kid. The point of my post was the immediate cannonization that JP has received. Parrish doesn't seem to be getting it, ya know what I mean?
Kelly the Dog Posted April 26, 2005 Posted April 26, 2005 I think it is utter glee over Todd Collins followed by the RJ/Flutie debacle followed by Drew. BUT... I also think that it can be contrasted by the Gregg Williams scenario. he was a virtual unknown coming in... quite a few Bills fans here immediately said this guy's a joke or what has he done (similar to JP) but most fans said show me what you got... Greggy immediately started coming off like a pompous ass and a LOT of Bills fans immediately turned on him because they didn't like his rap. The same thing happened with JP but in reverse. Most of the stuff he has been saying and he has done people have responded extremely well to, and instead of what happened to GW, more and more people are welcoming him and liking him.
RVJ Posted April 26, 2005 Posted April 26, 2005 I think Mcgahee has been worshiped just as much. Soon as he was healed. Starting with the goal line TDs in the Browns scrimmage.

And lets not forget than when Todd Collins started the game agaisn't the Cowboys when Kelly was hurt and won, then Kelly came back and played a bad game the next week, plenty of people crying fro Collins to start

It was against Cleveland right? That was the only football injury I have EVER applauded in my life. I couldn't help it.

You have to admit the kid brings some hope with him to the QB position. He may not be deserving of all the praise he's getting, I agree......but count me in with those who are really anticipating the start of the season with JP at the helm!
Bill from NYC Posted April 26, 2005 Author Posted April 26, 2005 Not sure which is worse, bashing a guy who hasn't played or deifying same. Joe Theisman? Sheesh. 319837 Joe T was a better qb than announcer.

I think Dan is great, and I certainly don't wish him ill by any means. But to have your achilles snap just dropping back to pass was nuts.....lol

Gavin in Va Beach Posted April 26, 2005 Posted April 26, 2005 He's a Bill. I love him until he does me wrong. Hell I'd even let him fug my sister.

Nail Ditka in the head repeatedly with snowballs? Fine with me......but DON'T EVER boo Jimbo. That was sacrilege.

LabattBlue Posted April 26, 2005 Posted April 26, 2005 4) The Bills will score more points in 05 because of JP, 1st year or not. Is it utter glee just to be rid of Bledsoe 319824 Not counting the ST and defensive TD's, I believe that the offense led by JP will outscore the offense led by DB. As far as the utter glee comment....you betcha'
Surfmeister Posted April 26, 2005 Posted April 26, 2005 Hope springs eternal. At the time OJ Simpson was welcomed with warm arms. He gave the very best of his health and football years to the Bills and never did get a SuperBowl ring for the effort. During his time with the club he did a lot to boost Buffalo. OJ Simpson
