If, like me, you've been (im)patiently waiting to see/hear/experience live music again, today's news should come as...um...music to your ears? Sheesh. Sorry about that.

I live in Oregon these days, but I might have to fly east for that Darien, Bethel, SPAC run. Seeing shows at Bethel Woods (especially when they feature musicians that actually played at Woodstock) is a ball.

Just, uh...maybe don't accept tokes off joints that get passed to you by strangers this Summer? See y'all out there.

Who's in the band?  I saw the Dead three times around '87, '88.  I don't know their music too well but it was a lot of fun.  Rich Stadium, Silver Stadium, and somewhere just across the Buffalo/Canada border that I don't remember the name.  I think the Canada one was the night before the Silver Stadium show.  Long time ago.

Just did some research.  The venue in Canada was Kingswood Music Teatre.  A lot of fun.

Yep. It's quite a racket these days.

First they release VIP and "verified fan pre-sale" tickets, and they do so in a way that attempts to portray scarcity, pump up prices, and scare fans into buying quickly. Eventually, general admission (lawn) tickets go on sale and are more reasonable, though still expensive compared to "the olden days". It especially gets outrageous once you see all the convenience and processing fees they add on.

I don't hate many things in life, but I really, really hate Ticketmaster. Evil with a capitol "E".

Bill Walton was on ESPN radio this morning. He’s very excited.

At New Year’s Eve 2019 show at Chase Center, I had side stage seats close to the stage. I could see into the backstage hangout area. I watched at set break as Bill Walton, who was there to act as Father Time and do the countdown, pulled his weed out of a Fanny pack, packed a bowl, and smoked up with some band and crew members. It was a hoot.

 

Side note: you do NOT want to stand behind Bill Walton at a concert. 😳

A few years ago, we saw D&C at Wrigley Field. The pre-show (outside the stadium) was Chicago jam band Mr. Blotto. During their set, Bill Walton jumped on stage with a hand-held drum. You'd think a guy who had a hall of fame career dribbling a basketball would have a better sense of timing, but from what I could see, he wasn't in rhythm with the band. That's probably why they didn't give him a mic. 😉

Went 3 years ago @ Alpine Valley, Wisconsin... Nice venue... But I see they are playing 2 @ Wrigley this year as the Chicago Area shows...

Was that 2017?  My son went to that one.  I like 2 nights @ Alpine Valley as the better Chicago Area Venue.  But, that's just me...

It was 2017. Wrigley is a great place to see a ball game but the acoustics and sight lines don't lend themselves well to a concert.

 

I agree about Alpine Valley - it's my favorite concert venue in the area and, as a bonus, it's an easy drive for us. We've seen a ton of shows there, including D&C in 2016.
