Hybrid OT/TE?

Redzone specialist?

You bet.   He'll line up at tight end some in two tight end sets.

Big ugly who’s not ugly.
Guy looks like a smoky eyed movie star...

So I wasn't the only one...

I'm looking at this guy as a sort of combined Ty Nsekhe/Lee Smith replacement. Developmental swing tackle and can use him like blocking TE in certain packages with the ability to snag a pass. I like it. And the RAS score is absolutely insane.

I feel much better about our tackle depth now, I'll tell you that.

We were one Dion Dawkins or Daryl Williams injury away from entrusting Josh Allen's health to Bobby Hart before this pick. That's all I'm gonna say.

Well.  They love their projects.  Secondary  depth is a serious concern.

It does seem to be Beane's consistent MO to go for high ceiling/athletic freak/boom or bust type guys.

Since Bates played decently at tackle for Dawkins, not quite true...but we did have 2 (I think) games last year where BOTH our tackles went out for a while.

There's your #1 TE.

I got to say, if he could run routes and catch, I don't know how you cover him.

But if he could run routes and catch, that would probably have occurred to his coaches in college

Yeah, but he's 6 foot freakin 8" tall.  If "low man wins" in blocking, he's got a long way to get down.

Looked this up immediately when I saw the height

Ogden was 6'9

Villenueva 6'9

Orlando Brown 6'8

Trent Brown 6'8

Whitworth 6'7

Solder 6'8

Eric Fisher 6'7

And by high ceiling we mean it literally.
