Ok I’m changing my vote. This has probably been posted but I’m too lazy to go through and look....

I think he wants to be in Buffalo- I hope his play is up to snuff I want him to make it now.

Melifonwu is the latest local college player to get pushed up draft boards by Bills fans who know the school. Crazy enough some fans even wanted him in the 1st round. All because he plays for Syracuse and became a trendy name around here.

Simplistic response. I wanted him not because he played at Cuse but because he'd be a day 1 starter at a position of need and not a project. We need a CB 2 and not a collection of UFDAs, washed up vets or hopeful 7th round picks.

More likely that they weren’t happy with the corners available at 61 and 93.

Along those lines I was reading the write up about the CBs available and most of the top guys were man to man specialists. CBs must for your system more than most positions.

He is NOT a day one starter.  His instincts are terrible.  You don’t go need-shopping in the draft, that’s how you end up with Torrell Troupe over Gronk.  You’ve been here a long time, I’m shocked you still haven’t absorbed this.

I guess that Beane disagrees with you regarding Melifonwu.

Haha I know what you're saying.

But 3rd round pick as depth is a little disappointing for me.

I want a 3rd round pick to come in and compete for a starting job

he will. swing tackle is almost like slot corner. 0% chance both our starting tackles play 100% snaps in a 17 game season

Trenches, that’s the way to go

Very hard for someone that tall to get low,  this is one of three picks I would question but we shall see.

The draft is not for patching holes.  The “we needed a cornerback” folks don’t understand how this works.  Taking the 12th best corner over a premium pass rusher or LT prospect because you need a corner is the kind of dumb decision-making that produced decades of futility.

The CB cupboard is a bit bare. We will grab a FA. More pressure upfront with the front 4 will help the backend a lot, whether it helps Edmunds or not...😲

No he wouldn’t be a day 1 starter. He’s not good, take off the Cuse blinders. The guy is 100% correct. Local fans wanted a local guy cause their familiar with . I’m an FSU fan, I am not touting up a single guy for them to take. Those guys just aren’t great. Not even Asante Samuel who I think is to slow and small to be successful in the NFL. I also don’t want them taking Nas at Safety or any of their overrated Dlineman that people love including Marvin Wilson

I've been here long enough to defer to Beane and not to you. Time to see Dane Jackson produce. Melifonwu will be a starting CB.

I respect your opinion but lose the "Cuse" crap. I could care less about that. We need a CB2, and J liked what Melifonwu brings. Time will tell.

Day 1 starters at CB don't fall to the end of round 3 in a weak draft class. I'm going back to what I said months ago before I got caught up in the hype of drafting a CB in the 1st round - CB2 isn't all that important in McDermott's scheme. Wallace can hold it down just fine. As far as weaknesses on the Bills defense last year, I would look at Edmunds and several players on the d-line before I pointed the finger at Wallace.

Melifonwu will likely be a backup for a couple of years at least and might ultimately get moved to safety so that the play stays in front of him - he has no idea what’s going on around him.  Why would you take a project like that instead of a generational tackle prospect?

It does seem to be Beane's consistent MO to go for high ceiling/athletic freak/boom or bust type guys.

Pointed up in the Rousseau thread too. Draft for traits and willingness to join the Process, and trust the coaches to bring the player as he is now up to become the player he can be.

Beane wasn’t lying when he said he’s thinking longterm.

Two/Three draft picks so far need development to get on the field.

He’s not getting much help for this season.

Schwartz going to Cleveland hurt because that was your speed player. That’s a player that I wanted the Bills to take.

With that said, I think the Bills need to expand Isaiah McKenzie’s role as a  speed player because the WRs left are generally slower.

The game is won and lost in the trenches, when FOs and HCs start forgetting this, the path is  then only to failure.

As Marv Levy said, if you listen to the fans, you will be soon be sitting with them.

I really like Beane & Co calling the shots.
