No.  In what ways are they similar?  Taylor was a 3rd round pick out of Akron.

The player has been drafted stop worrying about what round they were taken in it now is all about the production of the player

His hands are are over 11". Might be the largest in the NFL or at least not many larger. The guy Miami took only has 9 3/4" hands despite being 6'6.

One of the knocks on Rousseau i have seen is that some of his sacks were coverage sacks and shoelace tackles. But I was thinking with those massive hands he might be a unique player in the NFL that gets a number of tackles and sacks with his hands. Those hands would be like bricks hitting a QB's feet.

I think in his case its part of what his length brings to the table.   plus  big hands have a lot of strength in them.   HIs length and hand strength give him the ability to grab a jersey or ankle and bring a guy down that someone else wouldnt be able to do...so that's a definite strength to his arsenal that he brings.

I seriously want to hear why someone would think they are similar.  I don’t see any similarities at all.

Bruce on the Rousseau train and wants to mentor him,

“Greg, it’s Bruce. Welcome to Buffalo my man. I’ve been talking to Sean, and Terry and Kim for a number of years, telling them that one of the missing pieces that we need is a dominant pass rusher. I am extremely excited, man, that they chose you in this year’s first round draft. You’ve got a skill set, your physical attributes can take you a long way. But it’s that knowledge that folks like myself can help instill in you that will take you to the next level. We got big things planned for the future and the future, I mean next year. Looking forward to getting together with you man. Enjoy the experience. Buffalo’s one hell of a town, particularly when you’re winning. OK, man. Talk to you soon.”

I don't remember seeing him in college so I looked at his highlight tape ( yeah they only show the good) but I was impressed by the length of his arms. Seemed he'd be 3' away from the QB or RB and he'd reach out his arms and the guy with the ball was dead to rights.

In 2022 he'll be a starter and a solid one at that. He may even take the starting LDE spot before this season ends.

Here’s the thing about Rousseau, imo.

he’s rarely going to beat him man on the edge and force the QB to throw or to move up in or out of the pocket. He’s the guy that going to get the sack after someone else forces the QB to scramble or reset.  I’m really starting to think he’s another 3T and once he gets stronger, he can be an anchor on the edge on early downs.  Swatting passes, playing the passing lanes and getting sacks on QBs transitioning in and out of the pocket is where he’ll make his money.  Hopefully additional strength will allow him to be a force be the run.

Hopefully Boogie is that guy who chases the qb into Greg.

This young man's head must be spinning in the last couple of days.

Imagine how he must feel having BRUUUCE (GOAT of Sacks) wanting to talk with you about your game and other things!

Hope springs eternal for an impact pass rusher.

Agreed. How many times have you seen a DE just miss getting a sack because the QB was able elude the rush. What I’ve noticed about his tape is that his length allows him to get sacks others wouldn’t get.

I know at least four Canes fans that know their football and aren’t homers, including Badol here who pretty much hates everyone (ha), and all four of them really like Rousseau. A lot.

You get a completely different POV of a player when you watch full games versus highlights or draft profiles. He seems like a player, a gamer, and a great kid.

15.5 sacks is insane considering the snaps he got the first third of the season.

Perhaps most importantly, fans and pundits seem to disparage “coverage sacks” as somewhat lesser than blow past your man stats. And yet there are maybe 5-6 times a season when a speed rusher 12 sack guy just blows by his man and gets a sack. There are 5-6 times a game when a QB playing against the Bills eludes some tepid pressure, steps away and scrambles for a first or can still throw a pass for a first. A guy like Rousseau with his Gumby arms and football instincts may be exactly what we need from that position.

Yup as I said elsewhere he’s a Gumby-armed octopus.  He will lull his blocker into thinking he’s out of the play and then reach over the guy and grab the QB by the jersey.

I actually read the article earlier and then posted the link, then went back and watched the actual video of Bruce....chills man!   If I was that kid I would have been driving to the stadium or bruce's house ready to hit something lol

They probably read the online comparison that put him compared to Jason Taylor it’s out there on the Internet

They are both tall and long DE’s with great sack production and both played in Miami (at some stage...when I think of Taylor I think Miami). Taylor used that ranginess to be effective. It was part of his “style” in my mind when I think of him. Taylor is listed as 6’6” and played at 245 lbs, which is much like Rousseau who is 6’7” and is now 266 lbs but supposedly has gained about 20 lbs since the film of him. I’m not saying they are the same player, but I don’t think the comparison is that ridiculous.

I suspect he will be used as an interior pass rusher on passing downs this year. He did a lot of his work from the inside in his one big season. His pass rush win rate on the inside was dominant while his win rate on the outside was average. He's not a speed rusher or pure pass rusher at this point. He wins with power, tenacity, and an instinctual nose for the ball (having octopus arms helps as well). While he works on his outside moves he can play end on early downs and then kick inside on obvious passing downs while a speed rush specialist takes over at end.

Im wondering how many DT’s we’ll carry...

Would it be crazy to just have Star, Oliver and Butler?

Basham is better inside, and is really powerful.   Rousseau also a menace inside with his length and ability to get skinny and off blocks.

Then there’s Epenesa and Obada, who are also inside/outside guys.

Maybe they keep Harry as depth and just make him inactive on Gamedays?

Hughes & Addison sound like their locks based on Beane’s comments.

I think they'll have to keep 6 DEs.  If Hughes and Addison are locks, they're not cutting Rousseau or Basham, or even Epenesa after just 1 season, and probably wouldn't cut Obada who they just signed.  Considering they kept 10 DL to open the season last year, that means 4 DTs: Star, Oliver, and 2 from Zimmer, Butler and Phillips.  Maybe they keep 11 DL since they're no longer carrying a RS in Roberts.  I don't know.

A trade would not surprise me at all.
