Gugny Posted April 23, 2021 Posted April 23, 2021 Lots of great rock music has come out of Canada. Who are your Top 3? Rush Guess Who BTO Quote
DD4Bills Posted April 23, 2021 Posted April 23, 2021 Bands Rush (if I could vote them 1, 2 and 3 I would) BTO The Band Artists (not really "rock", but...) Neil Young Gordon Lightfoot Leonard Cohen 2 1 Quote
Another Fan Posted April 23, 2021 Posted April 23, 2021 Gordon Lightfoot Bryan Adams Alanis Morisette I'll give Carly Rae Jepsen honorable mention Quote
Gugny Posted April 23, 2021 Author Posted April 23, 2021 Neil Young is a great call. My mind was on bands, so he never crossed my mind. But he's easily my favorite Canadian artist. 1 Quote
Ridgewaycynic2013 Posted April 23, 2021 Posted April 23, 2021 I don't think I am qualified to answer, but 'Giant FM - 91.7' Welland has a well worn Trooper album. 🤨 Quote

This ^^^^ easily Can’t believe that nobody has said Justin Bieber or Nickleback. On a more serious note - by sheer popularity Celine Dion should be mentioned. Others missed include: Paul Anka, Bryan Adams, K.D. Lang and Bruce Cochburn. On a personal note - I liked some of the odd music that came out of Canada in the 80’s and early 90’s - Rough Trade, Loverboy and Heart come to mind. I believe a group named the Box also came out of Montreal in this period - their music was unique but sometimes good. Quote
LeviF Posted April 23, 2021 Posted April 23, 2021 Lot of good ones. Not a band but Joni Mitchell is Canadian. Arcade Fire, The Tragically Hip, Three Days Grace, Steppenwolf, The New Pornographers all haven't been mentioned yet. And yes Gug I ignored your OP instructions. 2 1 Quote
T&C Posted April 23, 2021 Posted April 23, 2021 Haven't seen Triumph mentioned... used to have some of their Lp's on cassette, the slide in the side kind of cases. 3 Quote
The Avenger Posted April 23, 2021 Posted April 23, 2021 Ann Murray - THE SNOWBIRD HAS LANDED! In all seriousness, Rush has to be at the top of the list. I also really like Triumph. More obscure are Aldo Nova and Kim Mitchell - you know, the stuff the always played on Q107 back in the day.... 1 Quote
Philly McButterpants Posted April 23, 2021 Posted April 23, 2021 The list begins and ends with Rush for me. Honorable mentions to: April Wine Red Rider Kim Mitchell Lowest of the Low Lotsa good Canadian Artists 1 1 Quote
Bob Chandler's Hands Posted April 23, 2021 Posted April 23, 2021 1) Rush 2) The Tragically Hip 3) The Band (80% Canadian!) Quote
DrDawkinstein Posted April 23, 2021 Posted April 23, 2021 For all-time best, it's tough to argue against Neil Young and Rush (although I'm not much of a Rush fan, I still get it). The Tragically Hip will always be up there for me. For some lesser known greats from the 90s: The Tea Party Odds Our Lady Peace Glueleg I Mother Earth Moist The Headstones The Tea Party being the best of the bunch. They were like a grungy Zeppelin. Some classic early-90s styles here... 1 1 1 Quote
SinceThe70s Posted April 23, 2021 Posted April 23, 2021 I can't believe nobody mentioned Anvil or Killer Dwarfs yet. On a more serious note it's Rush, BTO, Triumph for me. Quote

Ridgewaycynic2013 Posted April 23, 2021 Posted April 23, 2021 Scrubbaloe Caine actually played at Ridgeway-Crystal Beach High School in the early seventies. Members of the band later participated in Loverboy and Prism. Quote

Sort of a one hit wonder group though with the androgynous 80’s look. Quote
