This?

This reflects “what the energy of the Republican Party is in the conservative movement,” Dallek said. “All these questions of identity and culture, and the sense that America is, as they see it, slipping away from them” is what animates the modern conservative movement, he said. “It’s not energized so much by tax cuts or deregulation.”

Social issues are influencing all young people.  It's not just one party.

Can't blame her fiancé from wanting another early morning go.  Smart and hot.  Maybe we can recruit her from the dark side.

“I will tell you, every time we walk the plank, we are putting moderate members, members [in Biden-won districts]. We are putting those seats at risk for 2024. We are putting the majority at risk. And it’s not just impeachment that does that. Other issues, like abortion, et cetera, also put those members on the plank,” Mace continued.

another reason to avoid Fla...leper colonies.  would be funny if it wasn't so tragic.

Saw this too.  What isn't clear is the reason or cause.  The IDC10 code I see for leprosy is A30.9.  I'm going to run a diagnosis code search this week on medical data I have access to and see what pops up.

I looked it up and the total cases in 2023 is 15 for the whole state. These articles are terribly written because it does not give a theory on rise or any usable info. I was actually concerned for a moment.

looking to see if any data on masks and leprosy - not that I could find.  not suggesting floridians wear them but this seems like good advice:

Transmission | Hansen's Disease (Leprosy)

https://www.cdc.gov › leprosy › transmission

For general health reasons, avoid contact with armadillos whenever possible.

There is some hint that it may be related to immigration from countries in which it is endemic. Haiti is one such country. I'm not looking forward to the anti-immigrant backlash, but yes, we do need to be aware that these things may be related and discuss what that means for immigration law and policy and appropriate screening/public health responses.

The CDC published paper actually is making the opposite point:  that leprosy is now endemic in Fla.  Keep in mind the lead author is a soon to be intern in derm with an interest in world health and infectious diseases.  Think we should all wait and see what the experts in Leprosy disease think...of course, if they don't believe the experts, they're on their own to do their own research.

Don't know about you, but I'm starting a prophylactic course of ivermectin before my next trip to the Sunshine State.

If the leprosy experts suggest wearing a mask, will you?
