Who were these young safeties you speak of? Are we talking UDFA’s and journeymen?

Yep.  Josh Thomas, Garrett Taylor, Abraham Wallace.  Also Jaquan Johnson who is a draft pick.  No one beat Marlowe out.  Marlowe was a UDFA himself.  Turned himself into a pretty good player.

The only draft pick is still on the team, and all UDFA’s or journeymen aren’t? Also how much do you think Marlowe’s experience in the system came into the decision to keep him around?

The only draft pick never got close to the same defensive snaps as the journeyman.   His experience only matters if he plays well.  No one beat him out who was brought to add competition to his roster level. 🤷🏾‍♂️

If Marlowe bolts, it will be a big loss - depth very shaky behind Dr. Poyer and Mr. Hyde.

I am hoping the “mystique” of the Lions gives us the advantage. Remember when that used to work against us?

Me too. Life is good for Bills fans, no matter where Marlowe ends up.

Marlowe has now signed with the Lions. Quite surprising this one... thought for sure he'd be back.

They must have a plan in place to replace him in FA or the draft as the safety depth is far from deep.

Jaquon Johnson has yet to surpass him.

maybe this is the year - as part of the process rookies dont start or play much here - maybe its the cap crunch or maybe Johnson is the reason

  • YoloinOhio changed the title to Dean Marlowe visiting Lions (update - signed)

He prob was told by the Lions he could compete for a starting role, something obviously the Bills weren’t going to do

Possibly.  more money could also be a factor.

I'm pleased for him. He's earnt the right to compete for a starting job.

Hamsah Nasiliredeen just seems such an obvious pick as a replacement in the draft . Versatile, strong tackling and high football IQ.
