I hear a lot of talk about linebacker prospects that the bills might possibly draft

There Is one particular that I don't hear his name being brought up often, but he's definitely a bean and McDermott kind of guy

Versatile, four year player, sideline to sideline.. can play all three spots in our linebacking core

Dylan Moses , linebacker , Alabama

He has the size speed and range of a mike, and the play making ability of a will, with the strength of a sam

And he could back up Tremaine and Milano as well while getting his feet wet in the NFL

A supreme athlete and really good football player that we should be able to snag in the fourth round, which should help our defense in the present in packages and future

He does have some injury concerns but that's why he has slid anyways.

And he does play special teams

I’m sure Bill would be onboard.

I’m all for preparing for possible life without Edmunds.  If there has to be an odd man out when it comes to paying people, he’s it for me.

He has just not lived up to his hype and I don’t want to think about what his market value might fetch with an inflated market.

To me, the biggest key to our defense being next level is a true Kuechly type MLB

I'm not all about prodigies, but this kid got a scholarship from Alabama when he was 12 years old.. one of the most dominant high school players I've ever seen

He is a freak of an athlete, and probably still getting back stronger and faster from his injury

I don't think Tremaine is the odd man out for the Bills brass though. My gut tells me they remain entirely sold on him as their MLB..

As of right now I'm with you that they think he's their guy

@716Matt Parrino  had a twitter link to Dylan Moses speaking with the Bills on 3/29 under Pre Draft Visits topic.

I see him as an alternative to Klein when Bills go to a true 4-3.  Maybe use one of our 5th round picks.

I’m constantly amazed that fans don’t see Edmunds tremendous value to the Bills. He’ll be 23 next month, a three year starter, two-year captain of the defense, two-year pro bowler, played through injury the first-half of last season, has the deep trust of elite D coaches, and so many fans are OK losing him next year to be replaced by a lesser version?

He is simply not the type of player that offensive coordinators worry about.  His age, pro bowl status, etc. are all nice, but they really don't mean anything.

That’s an interesting point. We often hear of opposing teams game planning to target Edmunds but I don’t recall ever hearing of a team game planning to avoid him. Think about it!

Teams do gameplan around him. One of the reasons the Bills faced more play action in 2020 is because of how effective Edmunds was in 2019 at getting into the passing lanes in the traditional drop back game. Run play action, draw him up and then it is easier to throw over him.

At some point the light switch has to come on for Edmunds mentally. He has to process things faster, stop taking bad angles, and make the plays he should make when they are right in front of him to be made. We're going into his 4th year in this defense so there are really no excuses. Most of his inconsistencies are in run defense of course, but he will get lost in coverage occasionally as well. He also has a bad habit of running straight into an OL'man when blitzing instead of trying to shoot through a gap. I also wouldn't mind seeing him add about 10lbs to his frame so he could hold up better shedding blocks. He has the frame where he could do so. This year is make or break imo so it wouldn't hurt to draft a backup plan @ MLB. It will be interesting to see who is on the board @ #30 and to see the direction they go, especially if Zaven Collins is somehow still on the board. Guys like Jamin Davis (Kentucky), Monty Rice (Georgia), and Baron Browning (Ohio St.) are all intriguing prospects at the position to me as well.

I beg to differ. I’d say your example is more like an opponent planning to bait him into over playing...which remains his biggest weakness.

So it definitely plays on his weakness at the same time.... but go watch the 2019 tape back. He affected offenses a lot on plays where he takes lanes away and forces a tougher throw or makes the QB hold the ball as he comes off his primary read. Offenses have cottoned on that if you let Edmunds sit in zone coverage in the middle of the D he impacts you offense whereas if you can bait him into traffic you can neutralise him and even expose him.

I think this is so interesting because we constantly hear about how teams had to take Edmunds into account - especially in 2019 where we were a top defense and the best defense against TEs in the NFL.  Teams consistently looked for ways to try to attack the middle of the field and struggled.

For some reason - fans expect him to be Singletary/Lewis in the bringing force and violence to RBs, but that is not what the Bills are looking for.  They want his depth and length and when healthy - combined with Milano - two guys that can get anywhere on the field.

Teams run a bunch of play action to influence him (and every other LB as we showed also last year). The only LBs that it does not impact seem to be guys that are behind Stud type DLines that can stop the run with limited LB play.  How many times did Cover1 show the Bills offense influence the LB with play action and hit a crosser in a window behind him?  They did that all year on offense and had the same issue on defense.

We will see, but I have seen nothing that suggests the Bills are not happy with Edmunds and his multiple Pro-Bowl births suggest he is seen as a talented player - so I would assume the team wants to continue to grow around him and hopefully a bit more aggression on the defensive side will make the entire team better.

I'm not as anti-Edmunds as you would think. His skillset should not be a surprise to the Coaching Staff after three years. If anything, I would like them to coach him up, and beef him up. In my opinion he still needs to pack on some pounds.

I want Kuechley and we know that type of player can exist in this defense.  Edmunds simply doesn’t make game changing plays.  Yes, he’s on the field and he contributed, but he’s almost never a force.  You don’t see him bait QBs into bad interceptions or land hits that free the ball.

If anything, he usually does the basic job. However, I also feel like if I were to tally up the number of games he gave up a big play versus making a big play, it wouldn’t be close.

I don’t want to hate on the kid, but you just see the impact a MLB can make and it’s just not him.

But as always, I’m happy to be wrong

When the lead is that he's young for the amount of years he has in the league.........you know there is a problem.

They've also "cottoned on" to the reality that you can challenge him with throws into reasonably good coverage because his ball skills and ball awareness are not good.
