Wacka Posted April 1, 2021 Posted April 1, 2021 (edited) No one is better than the Beatles. NO ONE. In 1965, one week they had the TOP FIVE singles on the Hot 100 chart. Not 5 singles on the whole chart, but THE TOP 5. Never happened before and won't happen again. Edited April 1, 2021 by Wacka 1 2 Quote

Buftex Posted April 1, 2021 Posted April 1, 2021 (edited) Can't figure out how to post videos anymore...but if you ignore the crummy 80's production sound, Tina Turner does an amazing version of "Help!" Sinatra has a really nice version of "Something" as well. I will never say either is better than the original (it's the Beatles for chrissakes!), but they both have interesting takes on the songs (especially Tina), and both can sing pretty much anything and sound great! I'd also throw in Siouxie & the Banshees version of "Dear Prudence". Edited April 1, 2021 by Buftex Quote

But you know I love the Stones. Ringo's version has a good "swingin' 60's" sound....the Stones version (the original studio version) always sounded a little like Mick was embarrassed to be singing it. It really wasn't a song that fit the Stones style, in my opinion. Too poppy for them. Edited April 1, 2021 by Buftex Quote

Not as bad as the video from All You Need Is Love, with Mick sitting way down in the crowd looking way up at the Beatles... but still bad. Nevertheless, I like Ringo.... and I know he didn’t write it, but it’s still a Ringo song. I like Ringo songs, but it is what it is. I’ll take the Stones version. 1 Quote

ChevyVanMiller Posted April 2, 2021 Posted April 2, 2021 Not a cover as much as an homage. The Beatles’ favorite musician, Harry Nilsson, masterfully blends a number of their songs into one stellar tune. Quote
