  • YoloinOhio changed the title to FA RB/return specialist Tyler Ervin visiting Bills
Posted

As I said in the other thread (forgot which one, because, age and alcohol), let's have 3 return guys on punts. The Monty Python return special!

Posted (edited)

Remember liking him in the 2016 draft. His walterfootball draft profile fwiw:

Tyler Ervin, RB, San Jose State
Height: 5-9. Weight: 192. Arm: 30. Hand: 9.13.
40 Time: 4.41.
Projected Round (2016): 4-6.
4/26/16: The diminutive back Ervin is a return weapon on special teams who has played some cornerback as well. The senior averaged 5.4 yards per carry in 2015 for 1,601 yards with 13 touchdowns. He also had 45 catches for 334 yards with two scores. In his career, Ervin has three kickoffs returned for a score and two punt return touchdowns. He did not stand out in Mobile, but he was very fast at the combine. Ervin could be a late-round pick to serve as a third-down receiving back and returner.

If he wants to make the team, he's going to also have to be a good gunner and beat out Taiwan Jones. Don't see them using 2 RB spots for strictly Special Teamers.

I think Jones being designated an RB is almost a technicality. I can't remember him taking a single snap on offense last season, although I believe he did. He's a great gunner. Terrible RB.

Can’t wait for the Epic KR/PR competition in TC

McKenzie is already setting up workouts with Haack

His KR for a TD must still feel fresh in his mind!

Jones took at least one snap on offense because Daboll was trying to set the record for most TDs caught by different players and he dropped one in the end zone wide open

That's what I mean though. Last season, we carried Singletary, Moss, Yeldon, and Jones. If you're of the mind that Jones is staying, unless we're going to carry 5 RB's (and as such, taking away from a different position) - I can't see us keeping 2 RB's who provide nothing in the Running game and are strictly Special Teamers.

Probably so.  I like that Beane not only re-signed his best players at a discount relative to past markets.  The good thing is McBeane have a culture that make players stay.

I think this is a bring competition in signing.  This guy might be pretty good too.   I like the position we are in.

Jones dropped a TD in the endzone is the only play on offense is memorable. He might not do much on offense but he's up their on ST. Maybe the third best guy behind Neal and Matakevich.

I think Beane reads TBD and is directly trolling @FireChans at this point.

I'm starting to wonder with the Breida and Obada signings.

Nah he'll stick around for TC to be in the 90. He has a chance to make it as a 5th WR as he might be a better WR than Roberts was.

Except he's not a WR. He's a 5'10" Running Back.

You should have the honor of a LAMP if that happens.

Instead of Beane doing the competition musical chairs AFTER the draft like he always does,  with all the FAs scrambling

for a spot now just keep them coming in!
