Hapless Bills Fan Posted March 9, 2021 Posted March 9, 2021 March 9 at 4 pm is the end of the NFL's period for designating franchise or transition tag players. Unless....it's not (apparently under discussion as of Monday March 8 am): AND Link to Franchise Tag Tracker 2
GunnerBill Posted March 9, 2021 Posted March 9, 2021 We doubt the Bills are gonna use it this year, right? 2
Warcodered Posted March 9, 2021 Posted March 9, 2021 I mean it does seem odd to not of figured out what the salary cap will be and have a deadline for a decision that may be effected by it. 2 3

atlbillsfan1975 Posted March 9, 2021 Posted March 9, 2021 (edited) It doesn’t make sense for teams like the Bills to franchise tag anyone. The cap for 2021 has been adjusted down however the tag values have not. The only teams who can use the franchise tag will be teams like the Jets who have very few quality players to begin with and need to keep them, and have the means to pay the tag value (because they have very few quality players). DJB Posted March 9, 2021 Posted March 9, 2021 (edited) I think Bojo should be franchise tagged. Edited March 9, 2021 by DJB

I’m not using it on either of them. The only other very outside possibility is using it on a punter, which I can’t imagine happens.
BuffaloRebound Posted March 9, 2021 Posted March 9, 2021 I guess I’m in the minority but I’m using it on Williams. He’s the best RT on the market. Risk taking a step back on offense with a downgrade at RT.

I don't think they separate out LT and RT, so it's ~$14M afaik https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/news/nfl-franchise-tag-meaning-deadlines-values-rules/1o185fk9ywga31hax6m1ahgn3q I think these are just projected, I couldn't find actual values, but probably pretty close

Most of what I write on here is tongue in cheek. Difficult to convey however on a message board sometimes so I do understand and apologize. I'll edit my post. Edited March 9, 2021 by DJB

ALF Posted March 9, 2021 Posted March 9, 2021 Buffalo Bills punter Corey Bojorquez is a Restricted Free Agent, but that doesn’t mean much. As a Restricted Free Agent, the Bills can tender a contract to Bojorquez and if he is signed by another team, the Bills receive draft pick compensation for the move equal to the round the player was originally drafted. But Bojorquez was undrafted, so all Buffalo would get is right of first refusal (they could match the contract). Comparable contracts One year, $920,000 This is the league minimum for a player with three years of experience. Buffalo could add a small signing bonus of $137,500 to that figure if they want. That would place him in between the rookie punter deals and the veteran punter deals at roughly 18th in the league at his position. https://www.buffalorumblings.com/2021/2/16/22285320/contract-projection-for-buffalo-bills-punter-corey-bojorquez Buffalo Bills 2021 Free Agents that's a long list for Beane to work on https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/buffalo-bills/

Any RFA can be given one of 3 tenders: 1) original round - doesn't mean much in Bojo's case since he was undrafted 2) 2nd round ~ $3.4M 3) 1st round round ~$4.7M Now practically speaking, 2) and 3) may be far higher than the Bills want to go for Bojo since even a 2nd round tender is equivalent to the best-paid punter, Johnny Hekker's, contract. Just clarifying. 1
NewEra Posted March 9, 2021 Posted March 9, 2021 Looks like the giants will be franchising Leonard Williams while trying to work out a long term deal
Rc2catch Posted March 9, 2021 Posted March 9, 2021 Teams seem to be making decisions as if the deadline stands. I read Keanu Neal and Dupree are not being franchised so they’ll hit the market.
NewEra Posted March 9, 2021 Posted March 9, 2021 Reports: Godwin to be franchised. Golladay will not be franchised
