Miami has signed their placekicker, Jason Sanders, to a $22M extension with $10M guaranteed.  This is how a team with a lot of cap space goes to a team with not much cap space, without actually getting better.

$22mil over 5 years for one of the best kickers in the league doesn’t seem like anything worth criticizing.

It’s a kicker .....they’re up one season down the next. Your hoping your kicker kicks a ton of extra points instead of field goals.

Bass kicked 59 extra points while Sanders kicked 36. Bass kicked 34 FGs to Sanders 39.

It's a solid move, 4.4 million for a top kicker is more than a fair price. Although it is the right move to retain talent it does chip down the amount of cap space they do have to play with to only keep a player and not add one.

How much would you have paid for a good kicker back in , say Super Bowl XXV?

You either have a kicker or you don’t. Year after year we keep seeing teams rotating kickers on and off the roster trying to find one that can stick and have some semblance of consistency. If you find one you think is top 10ish in the league you keep them and pay the extra money if you want to win games.

I still don’t get the criticism. Go look at what kickers make and this isn’t crazy by any stretch.

The answer is obvious. They paid Christie $2.2 million over 4 years ($550,000 average) when Polian stole him from Tampa Bay.  His later contract extensions were in the $750-800,000 range.

Well, Josh Allen scored a total of 306 points all of last year. ( I think that's correct)

While Tyler Bass scored a total 167 points all of last year.

Bass just finished his rookie year, and single-handedly won us the Jets game last year.

So.... If I'm GM of the Bills I'm giving Bass a 20M/year contract.
