Saxum Posted February 16, 2021 Posted February 16, 2021 Article for those not wanting to deal with Buffalo News payfence. https://www.radio.com/wben/news/local/legendary-buffalo-radio-dj-shane-dies Quote Buffalo, NY (WBEN) The Buffalo Broadcasting community is mourning the passing of Hall of Fame radio DJ Shane Gibson, better known as Shane Brother Shane. Gibson died in Virginia Monday at age 78. Gibson first came to Buffalo in the mid 1970s as part of WKBW's Great American Talent Hunt, to find the station's next evening DJ. Sandy Beach was with Gibson on Shane's first day. "When they came in, they would go on the air at the end of my show and the start of their show. On his first night, I broke Shane in," says Beach. "He was an over the top guy. He was never judged the same way as other people were." Expand Quote
US Egg Posted February 17, 2021 Posted February 17, 2021 I worked at a "happening place" in the latter '70's. Lots of local "celebs" dined, drank and danced there. Shane was there, not rude, but wanted his space. He tripped the "light fantastic" with some lovely ladies. Quote
Beast Posted February 17, 2021 Posted February 17, 2021 Remember the jingle..... GR radio proudly presents, Shane Brother Shane....and Rock n' Roll! Quote
Nextmanup Posted February 17, 2021 Posted February 17, 2021 Here is a crazy memory I have from my childhood that for some reason I have always held onto. I was at an event at my grade school--St. John the Baptist in Kenmore, and Shane Nelson the Bills linebacker was a special guest speaking at this thing. I think it may have been a Cub Scouts sort of event, I don't remember. Nelson was a Bill from 1977-1982, this would have been some time during those years. I'm thinking 1980, so I would have been 9 years old. After Nelson spoke, they took questions from the crowd, passing around a microphone. Some kid asked Shane Nelson, the Bills linebacker: "Are you related to Shane on the radio?" And the gym (where we were all assembled) roared with laughter. That was like 41 years ago! Quote
WotAGuy Posted February 17, 2021 Posted February 17, 2021 I remember the contest they had to select the next evening DJ. They brought in the contestants and each got to do a show one night. I think they did the 5 guys in one week. Shane won the voting from what I recall. Very cool time for the latter stages of AM radio. Quote
