INSURRECTION WEEK UPDATE !

FBI (you remember them) investigation showed no grand conspiracy, but we went ahead with a politicized "Commission"  anyway.  Guess why ?

Because of fake outrage. Not many want to die for unproven election fraud they read about on the internet.

Well no legitimate insurrection has ever succeeded without commitment to the cause and incurring some casualties.  But seriously, a lot of posters here like me have explored the question what stopped them from carrying out their mission to the end?  If their mission was insurrection and overthrow of the elected government.  A logical answer has proved to be elusive.

For starters. there just wasn't a security force on duty to stop the large number of protesters from occupying, attacking, damaging, or burning down the Capitol if that was their intent.  Yet they did little if any harm to the building or its contents nor did they harm any members of the Congress.  They had no command structure or arms or weapons or equipment to pull off such a task.  Especially against the most powerful and well-armed government in the world.  Its not like they're trying to take over the government of Haiti against an ill-equipped, unmotivated, and untrained Army of a couple hundred troops that don't get paid on time.  If that was their plan it was a terrible plan.  Who in their right mind would agree to participate in certain failure?  And when asked to leave almost every person in the protest voluntarily complied with that request.

Frankly it makes no sense.  That's why I conclude the idea of an insurrection is more fiction than fact.  its a great story but so are lots of other fairy tales.

For the majority it was just a protest turned riot. There were probably a few dozen that really thought they were storming the Capitol.

Democracy is not in crisis just because Democrats are losing.

But then “our democracy” is just a code word for “untrammeled Democratic Party rule.”

Plus: “Personally, I suspect a lot of the panic over the anniversary of Jan. 6 is really connected to another anniversary that is coming up. In about two more weeks, Joe Biden will have been president for a full year. You may have noticed that it hasn’t been going very well for him or his party.

Violent crime spiked last year and then, in many places, spiked again this year. The economy was looking pretty decent until inflation started to spike and turned out not to be as transitory as predicted. The pandemic was looking pretty good until the delta wave spiked and now more Americans have died since Biden took office than before that. The border situation was looking pretty good before Biden took office, then apprehensions spiked to a historic high, literally the highest numbers ever recorded in a single fiscal year. The withdrawal from Afghanistan was approved of by most people in theory, but it became a deadly disaster where Americans and former allies were left behind to the tender mercies of the Taliban. On top of all of that, Biden’s agenda is stalled, his approval ratings are deep underwater and Democrats’ control of Congress is very much at risk, so much so that many are retiring rather than contemplate a future in the minority.

Much better to talk about the anniversary of last year’s riot than how the Biden administration is doing one year in.”

January 20, 2021 did far more harm to American than January 6.

So is CNN going to do a special on the group of Leftist knuckle heads who attacked the White House last year....or is that a date that doesn't matter because there was a Republican living in that building?  Was that insurrection not a threat to democracy?

Happy "INSURRECTION" Eve !!!!!

The Washington Post’s Jason Rezaian kicked off Insurrection Week with a piece arguing that “we don’t talk enough about the trauma many journalists endure.” Rezaian actually said that journalists “never want to eclipse” the subjects of the stories they’re writing about, which should be news to all of the Jim Acostas out there who continually make themselves the subject of their reports.

We were reminded of a piece VICE did on the six-month anniversary of January 6 on the trauma experienced by journalists who were there, and how many had PTSD or were in therapy.

CNN anchor Kasie Hunt knows that Thursday is going to be a tough one for journalists who were there or who had loved ones in the Capitol.

And now it's time for the airing of grievances. Oh wait...I forgot that's not allowed.  Can someone please put the aluminum pole back in the crawlspace?

Exactly.......no insurrection......never was.

"Working with information from online sleuths who style themselves as 'Sedition Hunters,' the authorities have made more than 700 arrests — with little sign of slowing down."

I'm trying to read "Prosecutors Move Quickly on Jan. 6 Cases, but Big Questions Remain/In the year since the assault on the Capitol by a pro-Trump mob, more than 700 people have been arrested, with little public indication from the Justice Department of how high the investigation might reach" in The New York Times.

"Sedition Hunters"?! That stopped me. What is sedition? If you Google, the top article you'll see is "‘Sedition’: A Complicated History/As a mob stormed the Capitol, the word 'sedition' was on many people’s lips. Its force is clear, but its echoes across American history are more complex and ambiguous" in the NYT, from January 7, 2021, one day after the mob scene in the Capitol.

The word "sedition" was on many people’s lips — You know the "many people" and how they talk — how they talk and how they've hunted, assiduously, for a big revolutionary movement among the Trumpsters of America. They've been saying "sedition" for a year, and what have they found?

Yes, 700+ people have been arrested for the things we saw happening before our eyes on January 6th, but that didn't take a sophisticated investigation to discover. A big outdoor protest turned into an indoor event. They broke in where they weren't allowed. That was as bad as it was, but it ended that day. What else was there?

Apparently there's "little indication" of anything else, but who knows "how high the investigation might reach"?

Today's NYT article is a big slog, because it won't simply say the hunt for some higher level offense has come up empty. There's "no public indication of the degree to which" the Justice Department might have something more.

{snip}

Or is it just frustration that these cases — seen at the individual level — are just so small?

[B]ricklayers, grandmothers, college students, artists, church leaders and long-haul truckers who, by and large, have admitted to little more than illegally entering the Capitol... have [mostly] avoided incarceration, sentenced to probation or stints of home confinement. Others have received only modest sentences, ranging from a few weeks to a few months. In court, those accused of minor crimes have almost always expressed remorse

Six Things to Expect From Jan. 6 Committee in 2022.

The nine-member committee is made up of seven Democrats and two Republicans, all appointed by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., after she blocked GOP appointments by House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif.

1) Televised Hearings, Interim Report

In 2022, the committee, which has mostly been operating like a grand jury gathering information, will come out into the open with hearings on TV.

Select Committee Chairman Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., said the panel is considering prime-time hearings to maximize exposure.  😆

“The public needs to know, needs to hear from people under oath about what led up to Jan. 6th, and to some degree, what has continued after Jan. 6,” Thompson told Bloomberg News.

The committee plans to release an interim report in the spring or summer of its findings and a final report in the fall—ahead of the November 2022 midterm elections.

Federal authorities won’t explain why three men who participated in the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021, have mysteriously disappeared from the FBI’s Capitol Violence Most Wanted list.

One unidentified man wore an earpiece during the riot and was filmed carrying what appeared to be a concealed handgun on his left hip. The man was pictured on the FBI’s most wanted list for over five months until he was removed without explanation on the same day the New York Times reported an FBI informant was at the Capitol on Jan. 6.

I just caught some coverage on the Today show this morning.  They had a congressman on who is a former Army Ranger who described the scene as something reminiscent of his days in Afghanistan.  I believe he’s a Democrat, but they didn’t say.

Putting aside the comparison to Afghanistan, as he described the events and the terror of his fellow congresspeople, I can imagine the fear some of them surely felt.   A quick glance at those in the room revealed an average age of maybe 60, quite a few a bit long in the waist, and probably not ready for any sustained physical activity.  Thankfully, the lines held though I still wonder how a bunch of knuckle dragging rioters in giant horns were able to overrun the Capitol in 15 minutes.

I support the arrest of individuals guilty of a crime, due process and appropriate prison terms.

Still, I watched scenes like that unfold in cities and communities across the nation last year that resulted in terror, destruction, and assault on the law enforcement community week after week.  Fires raged.  People were injured.  People died.  It really was a cottage industry, certainly seemed organized and supported in many cases by some of the same politicians who were at the Capitol that day.

I wonder if the people injured, terrorized and who lost loved ones would have prayed for an armed and trained  police force, bulletproof glass, and federal law enforcement with an unlimited budget to seek accountability and “at any level” as described by the DOJ.

The irony.  The irony.

How do know Mr Rove was talking about the people in that picture?

“What if the other side had done it? What if in early January 2017, Democrats similarly attired and armed had stormed the Capitol and attempted to keep Congress from receiving the Electoral College results for the 2016 presidential election?”

Classic—Now the libs are touting Karl freaking Rove as a beacon of truth and honesty.  🤣

The guy who was a key advisor to the president accused of fabricating a war, lying about wmds, and sending young men and women to their deaths for oil.  The top adviser to W the Bush, key ally to Dick Cheney, father of establishment poli Liz Cheney, the current reigning best R ever.

It’s fascinating the way the liberal narrative changed once war crime W Bush became kindly old Gumpy Bush, painter of paintings and close friend to Barrack, Michelle, Will and Hill.   Suddenly, as if by magic, the war for oil never happened.

Next hero to the liberal left…Donald Rumsfeld!
