Team Biden leads G-7 to global minimum tax rate.

The G-7 group of advanced economies announced an historic accord to set a minimum global corporate tax rate on Saturday, taking a first step to reverse a four-decade decline in the taxes paid by multinational corporations.

The deal reached at the G-7 meeting in London by Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the U.S. is a major breakthrough for the Biden administration’s efforts to enact a floor on the taxes paid by corporations worldwide.

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen has been adamant that the U.S. needs to work with other countries to prevent firms seeking lower tax obligations from simply moving elsewhere. Corporate tax rates across the globe have fallen dramatically over the last four decades.

ROGER KIMBALL ON JOE BIDEN’S SUMMER VACATION: He’s going for a nice ride across the big, big ocean in a very shiny airplane. Weeee!

Tomorrow, The Committee will bundle up Joe Biden, titular president of the United States, and take him for a nice ride across the big, big ocean in a very shiny airplane. Weeee! No details have been released yet about what flavors of ice cream he will enjoy, but The Committee’s press arm has been full of stories with titles like ‘Three things to watch on Biden’s first foreign trip‘.

This is not a difficult assignment. The big boys and girls who arrange Joe’s play-dates have told all his favorite friends in the media exactly what to say. And just a couple of days ago they surprised Joe with an article in one of his favorite newspapers, the Washington Post. It was just so nice. A couple of the minders got together and wrote the article and then put Joe’s name on it. Joe was just so excited to see that.

‘Did I do that?’ he asked when he sounded out the bit that said: ‘Thanks to the American Rescue Plan and our domestic vaccination strategy, our economy is now growing faster than at any time in almost 40 years. We have created more jobs in the first four months of our administration than under any other president.’

‘Sure you did,’ they said, though everyone knew it was someone else who developed the vaccines, who oversaw their manufacture and distribution and whose economic policies led to the lowest unemployment in history.

Biden gets a nice reception from the troops. Good to have a president with family that served.

I assume you're referring to his son, who was discharged for drug abuse, and was recently caught in emails throwing the "n" word around?  Oh yes, that's a real good thing to have!

I think we're all wondering what Joe said to MacArthur.  Hopefully we have the jerrys on the run.

Not jealous at all. I thank him for his service.

Care to comment on Hunter?  Or are you just trying to conveniently avoid those racial slurs?

Earlier today, President Biden and the first lady departed DC en route to Europe for the G7 summit.

The first stop was in the UK for a visit with Air Force personnel, where Biden let everybody know the “greatest threat” America faces this week:

Wait, wasn’t “white supremacy” just the biggest threat America faces?

Forgive him.  He didn't want to be laughed at.

And did he visit the border while he was there?

Former WH Staffer: Vladimir Putin “Body Slammed” Joe Biden When They Met

“I was standing in the room with him when he met with Vladimir Putin and Vladimir Putin body slammed him. He made him look like he didn’t know what he was doing. It was the first one on one meeting Joe Biden had with Vladimir Putin. It was during the Russian reset. It was in 2011. And all of a sudden, Vladimir Putin just turned off the lights and that was it. Joe Biden couldn’t say another word. They cut off his mike. They turned off the lights for the press for the television cameras and Joe Biden was dumbfounded. Almost the same thing happened several months later in China. It’s all in my book, these examples of Joe Biden getting bullied by authoritarian leaders and then rolling over and basically doing what they want. If you’re a Hollywood actor and Joe Biden is your agent and he’s out there, agenting for you with these people, you don’t want to deal with that. You can’t have him out there negotiating like that. He’d be a horrible negotiator.”
