We're not going to be a "run first" team IMO. "Run more effectively does not mean "run on more plays" or at least, not many more plays - and if we run more effectively to the tune of 2-3 more PPG and stay on the field longer with easier passing opportunities, that means more pass plays as well. Imo, the Bills cant prove that they are effective in their running if they dont run more in the next season. We ofcourse will never be a pass-first team with Allen at the helm, but our percent & YPC by RBs *has* to increase. Else the threat wont be real. An effective run game and sustained higher run/pass ratio will create more big play opportunities for Diggs. His total yards may drop compared to this year but that is acceptable if it means we are better balanced to beat the Chiefs

His total yards may drop compared to this year but that is acceptable if it means we are better balanced to beat the Chiefs I think you're mixing two different concepts: more effectiveness in the run game vs. more reliance on the run game The latter is neither necessary or sufficient for the former I don't understand your first sentence "the Bills cant prove that they are effective in their running if they dont run more in the next season". If we ran exactly the same amount, but our backs averaged 5.1 and 4.7 ypc instead of 4.4 and 4.3, we would be more effective, yes? Ditto for situational stats, such as if we converted more than 26 of our 62 rushing attempts on 3rd and 1-3. Let's say we had the same yardage, but converted 10 more, 36 of 62. Wouldn't that be more effective? 1

Nihilarian Posted February 4, 2021 Posted February 4, 2021 (edited) Good stuff, Yolo. All I can do is thank the lord that Antonio Brown wanted no part of Buffalo...so, Beane was forced to keep looking. He found a really rare diamond in Stefon Diggs. So far best receiver in Buffalo history in terms of leading the league in receptions, yards. 127 receptions for 1535 yards. Wowzah! On another note, the leap he took in 2020 were the *166 targets from Josh. DeAndre Hopkins had 160 targets and did far less. *Woops 166 targets, not 126 Edited February 4, 2021 by Nihilarian 3

What would a high end RB do to this one dimensional offense? Dare I say Just as good as KC. For a team to have to worry about an amazing RB and then have to worry about our pass attack? you want to put 5 in the box fine we will run for 4-5 yards on first down.. want to but 6+ in the box perfect we will throw 10 yards down the field. Having an elite running back is not about running 30 time unless its game planned due to weather and a lousy front 7 defense.
zow2 Posted February 4, 2021 Posted February 4, 2021 Diggs was on Cowherd this afternoon as well. Great interview, some great answers.

Exactly to get as far as we did with an average defense and no running game shows just what a talent Josh is put him in say the Cowboys offense and they’re in the Super Bowl

freddyjj Posted February 4, 2021 Posted February 4, 2021 The one play in the Bills season that convinced me that this team could go far was the late Allen to Diggs TD vs Cardinals. Great route, incredible throw and a spectacular catch beat great coverage from Patrick Peterson an All Pro CB. It has been decades since we could expect performance like this. Proved to me two old adages: Big time players make big time plays. In crunch time think players not plays. 5

My premise is that if you want to prove you can be an effective running team (when you need to grind out the clock, give your D a break, get a critical 1st down, in the RZ etc), then we need to do it on a more frequent basis. Simply saying it and doing it on a few occasions is not adequate. Secondly, our run pass ratio ranking is #11 (just below KC) but we had to pass close to 70% of the time in the playoffs as opposed to 61.7% overall. This has to change starting with the regular season. This year, you can point to the Pats** game and perhaps another couple where we really established the run but on average, we couldnt run when we needed to in the playoffs (notwithstanding your stats below). Your last para is a good example of effective running but there is no magical switch. We have to run on a consistent basis with more runs sprinkled into the overall O game plan. Else next season, teams are going to look at our 3 Playoff games and devise an effective plan to neutralize the O. 1 hour ago, Hapless Bills Fan said: I think he meant "never be a run first team" but just mis-spoke Yea, sorry. Will Diggs still be a happy camper...I say yes but I dont want any pouting either Well if we run more effectively it will make it so hes not seeing zone or doubles constantly and he will get even more big plays even if targets go down
