Mat68 Posted January 25, 2021 Posted January 25, 2021 Buffalo needs someone outside besides Diggs. Maybe Brown and Beasley is injury related. Down the stretch they were shut down by Baltimore and Kc. Smaller guys dont become less injury prone the older they get. I think with Stills and the Davis Brown will be a contestant for restructure or cut. Buffalo needs to get more Dynamic on offense and better outside on defense to beat KC.
CapeBreton Posted January 25, 2021 Posted January 25, 2021 John Brown has always been injury prone, I have a hard time seeing him living up to his contract next season. The issue with cutting him is that I don't see how we replace him with another free agent who we'll have to overpay for. How is this year's wide receiver draft class? That might be the only option here.

Yeah, but I think it was more due tot the fact that he was really, really banged up in that Baltimore game. He wouldn’t have played if it was a garden variety regular season game.

I was originally thinking that he might be up for a Beane haircut similar to Kroft and Star last year .... and I would have been ok with that previously... Unfortunately, my thoughts are now that he hasn’t performed this playoff season, and let’s be honest... we needed him to show up today....and whilst he wasn’t the only one to blame... his salary next year makes him stand out... I think it’s time to move on from Brown...and save the 7-8 Mil or so... nothing personal and I sincerely wish him well at his next stop I don't know where you gte "hasn't performed this playoff season". I think his 8 catches for 62 yards vs.Baltimore were a key reason we were playing KC> The uncoachable trait Brown has on our offense when healthy, is speed. His kryptonite is physical press man coverage, which seems able to take him away IMHO the reason we signed Kenny Stills to the practice squad for the playoff season was as a 3 week audition. He's got that same uncoachable speed thing. He's been passed around 3 different teams. The pattern seems to be he has a good year (NOR 2014, HOU 2019) then disappears. He's been traded 2x and cut 1x, with a guaranteed salary and on a team that was not flush with WR talent. That's a flag. So Beane brought him in, as a "break glass in emergency" sure, but more to take a look at his work ethic, his football smarts, his attitude. I think if they like what they saw, they try to sign Stills and move on from Brown. Stills is bigger (6'1", 202 vs 5'11", 178) and may be harder to neutralize with a 40 time only 0.04s slower. But it will depend upon what they saw, then upon salary expectations. I'm having trouble figuring it out, but I think he was paid $8M guaranteed by the Texans this year. Brown's salary was $7M this year with $1M in bonuses, same next year. $1.6M dead money if we move on.
NewEra Posted January 25, 2021 Posted January 25, 2021 Yeah. I’d like to resign him for half the $ but he’s not worth 8 mill for this team. I really hope we find a way to upgrade at RB without spending big bucks or a high pick.

Beasley was open against the Ravens several times that Josh didn't pull the trigger, but the Ravens really seemed to be playing to take him away, and largely succeeded. Brown had their #3 (I think) guy on him and was able to get open. 1
Charles Romes Posted January 25, 2021 Posted January 25, 2021 A good regular season player not built for the playoffs.
Success Posted January 25, 2021 Posted January 25, 2021 Too many hot takes here - I think it's pretty obvious he was hurting this year. I love what that guy brings to the table, and you can't do much better for a #2 to line up across from Diggs when he's healthy.
ngbills Posted January 25, 2021 Posted January 25, 2021 He will either restructure or be released. They have options with Davis and Hodgins, plus guys like Stills, McK, Kumerow, etc.

Perhaps it’s a little harsh to say he didn’t perform, however my expectations were sky high for him coming into the playoffs fresh and ready to go after quite a lay off 1 hour ago, ngbills said: He will either restructure or be released. BullBuchanan Posted January 25, 2021 Posted January 25, 2021 I think the plan was always to cut Brown this season, based on how his deal was structured. He was a good player for us, but he's no longer needed. Gabe Davis takes over his role and you draft a new WR to backfill and compete with Hodgins.

Gabriel Davis has out-performed expectations as a rookie and he's not a slug, but he's not a speedster either (4.54 guy). His hero as a WR is Larry Fitzgerald, the guy who's not that tall, not that fast, but out-works, out-moves, and out-thinks everyone else. Unless he can somehow train at "House of Speed" and improve his speed without hampering some other aspect of his game, he's not physically equipped to take over that "take the top off the defense" speedster role

He's gotten deep plenty this year, and you can use McKenzie in that deep role when you need it. Additionally, I think you also draft someone, and if you want them to be a burner, so be it. Diggs was used as a deep threat in Minnesota too. I really don't see it as a problem.

If we can get Stills at half of Brown's salary, keep McKenzie count me in. I'd also look to draft a depth RB/WR/DB to replace Roberts I'm good with that too.
