Stefon Diggs wanted a new start. The Bills needed a spark. Now the NFL is on notice.

The third day of the 2015 NFL draft was about to unfold, and Stefon Diggs’s name remained uncalled. Michael Locksley, his offensive coordinator at Maryland, fidgeted. He knew Diggs’s pride and Diggs’s competitiveness. He knew with three rounds and 99 players already gone, Diggs would be seething.

“I was agonizing right there along with him,” Locksley said. “I remember thinking, ‘We got to do something to get his mind off this draft.’”

So that Saturday morning, the draft’s final day, Locksley grabbed three things: his son Kai, who was then a high school quarterback, some footballs and a boombox. He told Diggs to meet him at Maryland Stadium. They went down to the field. They flipped on some music. And for two hours, they caught passes.

“That’s how he cleared his head: working out, catching balls, running routes,” Locksley said. “He needed to work.”

He went to Our Lady of Good Council?  Never noticed that.

I was raised Catholic and went to Our Lady of Good Council in Blasdell and married there.

I hope he does not have bad knees.

Good article. Thanks for sharing.

When Diggs was traded here I was hopeful he and Allen would be a good match.

I wasn’t all that worried about the “diva” stuff because I trust Beane and the Bills locker room culture, but also because from what I had read the issue with Diggs was more about Cousins than anything else.

I read that Diggs and Cousins just didn’t mesh well. That Diggs didn’t think Cousins was a “dog” on the field (like Case Keenum was). Felt that there were times Cousins didn’t want to win as badly as he (Diggs) did.

So I was hopeful that he would be a good match with Allen, and he certainly has been! It feels like the perfect fit for Diggs. I hope he’s found his new permanent home (and I think he has).

I was hopeful but concerned that Josh wasn't a great passer and that would lead to frustration by Diggs.  This season couldn't have gone any better with creating a great first impression for Diggs, which will go a long way to keeping him happy going forward.
