I didn’t see a complaint there.  Only an observation.  Turns out you’re as bad with diction as you are with treatments for infectious disease.  Sad.

And that is it? Nothing about last year?

Will it be almost as huge as mandating the wearing of masks that don't actually stop the virus ? Just asking don't hate .

You’re the one making the claim the US allowed China to take over Hong Kong last year. I’m waiting to hear the rest of this conspiracy theory. Does it involve a deep state time machine?

No, and I don't think Tibs really knows what it involves either.  What he's referring to is the security law that China passed for Hong King last year.  Basically it give the Chinese government a greater ability to absorb Hong Kong into the mainland, as opposed to the 1 country 2 systems model that was being observed before.   BBC has a pretty good coverage:    https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-china-52765838

The US unanimously did pass the Hong Kong Autonomy Act, which Trump signed, but it was largely ignored by the American press for reasons you'll have to infer on your own.

I can assure you he doesn't.

Really nice job here. This is what I hope tibs would’ve educated himself with. But you could tell he went silent. There were also protests regarding policies curtailing free speech imposed by the mainland and a bipartisan trade reclassification of the us relationship with Hong Kong as a result.

China is progressively assimilating Hong Kong. If they don’t finish doing it tomorrow they will by 2047.  But this started 24 years ago.

The claim that the orange scourge let China take over Hong Kong was so dumb I couldn’t let it go, especially coming from an ideological suprematist like that.

Not to worry now though.  Beijing Biden is on the case.  He'll wrest HK from China's control right quick...

BTW, I'm so glad Joe put the screws to Russia over bountygate and election hacking with all those EOs...

if they would just get jobs and contribute to the economy they wouldn’t have time to riot and start insurrections

So then why are the blue counties doing all the complaining all the time? Could it be that what we really have is a ‘glass half full perception’ problem?

I guess money can’t buy happiness. I can’t find any stat that shows which counties complain more than the other.

If this is true- and I am accepting it- how is it possible that LA, CHI and NYC all can't balance their budgets easily? It would seem the issue is not funding but spending. If this does not speak to the incompetence that is now running blue counties I am not sure what would.

GDP and budget are two different things. GDP looks at the actual dollars brought into the economy, budget for a city in your example looks at tax revenues and other revenues less expenses.

One area where blue states do not get a lot of help here is funding. You can see percent of states budget attributable to public funding here: https://www.moneygeek.com/living/states-most-reliant-federal-government/

9 of the top 10 states that get the most Federal dollars for their budgets are red. I’d imagine if you removed federal money from those states they would have large budgetary issues.

The graph also implicitly states the obvious, Democrats win cities. For example, Cook county is 1 county but will be a huge block on their since its Chicago whereas Wyoming County NY will be tiny.

The other skew is California. If California said F off IS and because it’s own country, it would be the fifth largest country in terms of GDP as of 2019.

With CA in mind you may say the data is skewed due to population when looking at real numbers. However when you look at GDP per capital, the top of the list is mainly blue states and the bottom of the list is mainly red states (it’s Wikipedia but it’s an easy presentation and has the figures): https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._states_and_territories_by_GDP_per_capita

But the fact the charts do point out is blue counties bring more GDP to the US than red counties. The link I provided above also shows red states require more Federal assistance.

Its not a crazy thing that Democrat policies lead to increased GDP, as we have seen this on the national side as well based on President:

Maybe the reason that blue counties are successful in business activity is the same reason that they are "complaining all the time":  the people who live in those counties aren't willing to accept a low bar status quo but are always looking for better, for themselves and others in their communities.

I grew up in a small rural area and have now lived in a small city in a rural area of New York for 20+ years -- Trump country -- but in between that I lived and worked in large urban metros.  Even in the late 1960s when I graduated from high school, economic opportunities in my town were so limited that ambitious young people left town to go to college or to find jobs in Buffalo or Erie, PA, or elsewhere.   That has been the story of small town, rural America throughout the 20th and 21st centuries: the migration of ambitious and creative young people to larger areas in search of more opportunity, even when they come from families that have found economic success in their small towns.  Most never return because there's little incentive to do so.

I think that the young people who don't leave small towns/rural areas are probably not temperamentally inclined to be ambitious or adventurous and much more inclined to be accepting of the existing status quo however poor that status quo might be.

Thanks...I’ve said the exact same about California. I’m originally from WNY but moved out here for grad school and stayed for the vastly superior professional opportunities. By its very location on the far west coast, California attracts an independent group who left their homes and families (and countries) back east. But that opportunity has its ups and downs. The area attracts highly motivated people who succeed and also the waitress who failed as an actress. Even after 40 years I find it to be an odd place....but it’s going to be 70 and sunny today, so there’s that!
