BillsFan2313 Posted January 22, 2021 Posted January 22, 2021 Little nugget about Tom Seaver. He was actually signed by the Braves, but a draft rule prohibited him from signing with them. Quote

Think about that! 30 home runs for 25 seasons. Think about that! Year after year after year he hit them. Coming to major league baseball, as he did, only a few seasons after Jackie Robinson, he was subjected to a lot of racial abuse. It got worse as he approached the Babe's record. We forget how much strength and courage it takes to make change. It continues today. 1 Quote

Had a brief encounter with Aaron in Cooperstown during HOF weekend in 2001: A true gentleman in every sense of the word. The most star struck moment Ive ever had. Baseball is a much better place because of players like Hank Aaron. 1 Quote
Ned Flanders Posted January 22, 2021 Posted January 22, 2021 This one hurts the most...what he endured chasing the Babe in '73 and '74 was repulsive...yet he handled it with character and class. 1 Quote
SinceThe70s Posted January 22, 2021 Posted January 22, 2021 Fun fact about Hank Aaron: growing up he batted cross-handed (left hand above right for a righty) and it wasn't until he made it to the minor leagues that the habit was broken. Fun fact about HR #715: it was caught in the Braves bullpen by relief pitcher Tom House. After his baseball career he was a pitching coach for awhile and then somehow morphed that into coaching some pretty big name QB's on throwing mechanics. As per wikipedia this included: Drew Brees, Tom Brady, Alex Smith, Carson Palmer, Jared Goff, Andrew Luck, Jimmy Garoppolo, Carson Wentz, Andy Dalton, and Matt Ryan. RIP to another baseball legend. K-9 Posted January 22, 2021 Posted January 22, 2021 RIP, Hammerin’ Hank. Truly one of the GOATS. And the epitome of grace when I think if the racist crap he put up with as he approached Ruth’s record. Quote
Greybeard Posted January 22, 2021 Posted January 22, 2021 I remember him more for being an Milwaukee Brave than him being an Atlanta Brave. I suppose it is mostly forgotten the great teams he led in '57 and '58. RIP Mr. Aaron. A song by a former REM member about Aaron. A slightly off topic but fitting song if you are a baseball fan. https://www.mlb.com/news/chuck-d-on-baseball-activism-new-tribute-song Quote

Southern_Bills Posted January 22, 2021 Posted January 22, 2021 I remember reading his autobiography as a kid. Was always one of my favorite sports stars. Quote

When he was a kid, he and his friends would pitch bottle caps and hit them with broomsticks. Good for the batting eye. 1 Quote

RIP, Sir. The crazy thing about that video is the fact that the man was receiving death threats for passing Babe Ruth, and yet when he hit the HR and was rounding the bases, two fans made it out onto the field and got right next to him!! Thankfully, they were fans, but what if they weren’t??....where was the security??? Sheesh!!! 1 Quote
CowgirlsFan Posted January 22, 2021 Posted January 22, 2021 RIP Another legend gone. Thank you for your contribution to the game of baseball. Quote
