I would say there has never been a group of better actors assembled for a tv show.  Falco, Marchand, Dominic Chianese, Aida Turturo, Lorraine Bracco...all just steller...but for me, Michale Imperioli is the most underappreciated of the bunch.  I think he was perfect in that role.

Not Artie Bucco or Janis

I agree that Janis and Tony's mom were almost unbearable to watch at some points, but I have to ask myself...these characters are supposed to annoy me and get under my skin, so if they are successful at doing it, is their acting really that bad?  For Janis I still say yes!

Ma.

She was stellar.

Never liked her character and her appearance shouted out "I am not Italian" which stuck in my craw.

Being Italian and having been around short, plump, sweet, loving, old Italian ladies my entire life, none of them remind me--at all--of Livia Soprano.

She was based on David Chase's (Italian) mother...he said she bore a striking resemblance...including here height.

Phil Leotardo portrayed by actor Frank Vincent.

I hated Leotardo, part of it was a fantastic script that made him loathable antagonist, the other part was just fine acting.

This isn't Sopranos but mob related....

Did you guys know how Whitey Bulger died?  He was beaten with a padlock in a sock to death and was unrecognizable after.  The attackers ripped his eyes out of his sockets.

It was other mobsters who hated Bulger for his cruel tactics so they massacred him like he did to others.

Joe Rogan's podcast was talking about stories they heard.  Mentioned something like they were breaking a guys bones and he would pass out due to pain.  Then they would inject him with coke so he would wake up to feel the pain....break another bone.  All with a hammer.

Marchand was from Buffalo.

Yes and she had the same attitude and outlook as my own mother who's from Buffalo. Really creepy to watch her work in this series. It brought back.....umm...memories.

Tony Sirico (Paulie Walnuts) was on Larry King Live many years ago.

Larry asked a question...something like if it was true that Tony Sirico had been convicted of a crime, much like the character he portrayed in the show.

Tony's response was an all-time classic.  He said, almost proudly and defiantly:  "Yeah, I did time."

His facial expression and the way he spoke were basically indistinguishable from the character Paulie.

Which made me wonder how much "acting" he was doing on the show and how much of it was just himself being himself.

LOL

PS:  The scene where Paulie drove around on Christopher's newly landscaped front lawn had me in tears with laughter; as loud as I've ever laughed watching TV or a movie.

or when they were stuck in the woods....a personal favorite was when Paulie visited the psychic
