Royale with Cheese Posted January 15, 2021 Author Posted January 15, 2021 Did you guys know that Jim Kelly used to date the Executive Assistant at my old company? I didn’t believe her and then she came to work the next day with photos. I couldn’t believe it! She never dated him as a Bill, she was living in Houston at the time and he was on the Gamblers.
jkx2 Posted January 15, 2021 Posted January 15, 2021 (edited) That the Bills should have been in the first two Super Bowls? In 1963 AFL commissioner Joe Foss sent a letter challenging the NFL to a championship game starting in 1964. Had the league started the Super Bowl that year the Bills would have played the Cleveland Browns. Cookie Gilchrist vs Jim Brown. In 1965 we would have played the Packers. The Bills defense of those years would have given the NFL a tough game. We may be chasing the Lou Saben trophy had Pete Rozelle not chickened out. Edited January 15, 2021 by jkx2 1

Cookie was a better runner between the tackles, [and on bad fields - The Derrick Henry of his day] but Brown was also a deadly weapon in the passing game. Bills probably would have been in the first Superbowl. Saban traded Cookie to Denver, because he couldn't control Cookie, then did one of his multiple quits in anger. Joel Collier was an all-world DC, but not a head coach. We also stupidly let Lamonica go to Oakland and kept Kemp with eroding skills. the 1966 defense was rock solid and basically the same defense as the two AFL championship teams. Interestingly Lamonica was from Clovis California, also in the central valley of california, an hour from firebaugh, and was a big strong quarterback with great arm talent.
