And Mitch just canceled impeachment but got exactly the headline he wanted.....all the Ds had to do was shut up and let the actual removal from office take place next week.

Instead, the Ds set what's sure to be a lunacy filled term that already began with Amen and Awoman.....Mitch got this

Thank you all for playing like the children you are...

Mitch didn’t cancel anything. The impeachment is still going on and the trial will be after Trump is out of office. When convicted he will lose several ex-President benefits such as his pension and travel budget.

That guy is so far from reality it's actually scary.

Funny once again he got the information wrong.

It'll be interesting to see that go through the court system, and maybe hear some of the tasty revelations about ***** presidents get away with before retreating to a life of luxury in Martha's Vineyard, Chappaqua, or Texas.  You have to wonder about all the things said, done, and ordered by a prez that don't result in this sort of thing.

Imagine--Mary Cheney, daughter of the War-for-Oil strongman Dick Cheney, supports impeachment without so much of a hint of irony, nor a question about her family ties.   Carrying water for the dems, Trump making remarks inspires her to jump on board, yet her old man sending American soldiers to die by the thousands in search of profits doesn't even register on the dem naughty list.  Totally cool, no worries, no pension issues, just business as usual.

And there it is. Impeached again! 10 Republicans vote yes on the impeachment.

Trial will most likely be around the 19-21st.

Most BI-PARTISAN impeachment vote in history.

Mitch is not going to run again for Senate. I can see that GOP partisan strong-man feeling like his best legacy will be to exorcise Trump from the Republican party before he exits into the political sunset.

It is clear to the Republican old guard where following Trump leads... straight to the most extreme elements of our society that seem fine standing cheek to jowl with white supremacist, Q-Anon conspiracy lunatics, and fascist anarchist willing to commit crimes like kidnapping, murder, and/or sedition.

Not quite the party of law and order, more like a circus freak show. They were fine letting Trump pour on the lies like gasoline on a MAGA dumpster fire as long as it only meant more money flowing into Super PACs, and that they could collect votes from the Trump cult. It's just that they thought that somewhere along the lines a sociopath like Trump was going to reel it in and morph into something resembling a respectable, responsible President and do the right thing, concede the Biden victory, and transition the government for the next administration.

Amazing to me that they could have miscalculated so badly reading that man. Talk about living in an alternate reality. Cowering in DC they found they could not put the genie back into the bottle.

Too late they realized just how much they underestimated the shear lunacy of Trump supporters and just how far he was willing to let them go before he issued a calculated "go home" couched in the same lies fueling his martyrdom narrative that the election was stolen. The same narrative of lies that got them riled up to begin with.

McConnell will regret he punted on a quick, clean impeachment.  You know darn well the Democrats will run a full trial, and you can bet the complicity of Republican lawmakers in inciting this armed insurrection will get plenty of airing.

The Founders were very clear about the danger of mobs and mob violence.

We all appreciate the danger and no one is doing anything other than condemning what happened last week.  Just like we condemned what happened during the riots in the Spring/Summer.  The point I was trying to make is that any idiot(s) can take someone's words and twist them to suit his/her/their own purposes.

I don't think so.  I agree WideNine that McConnell won't run again, and I think he wants the info aired about the Republican lawmakers who assisted the insurrectionists.  He wants to rid the GOP of not only of Trump but he also wants to cleanse the party of Trumpists.  He wants that to be his legacy.   IMO, McConnell will vote guilty in the trial, and if he waits until the two new Democratic Senators from Georgia, only 16 other GOP Senators will need to join him to convict Trump.

Just saw Trump speech. Finally he has had someone grab him by the throat and force him into a logical statement.

Only after impeachment, a week too late...what a phoney self absorbed as? .

Said with a smerk,  where was this responsibility last week, last month.

Donald J. Trump Sr.  Good bye....

You are trying to pass off the past 4 years that lead up to this as if it never happened.  I find it funny he still using twitter, loves to walk both sides of his hypocrisy.

McConnel is smart.

He knows they have to purge Trumpism from their ranks or face total political annihilation without Trump on the ticket in future elections.

In two years, with Trump out of office and the GOP in a full fledged civil war between RINOs and radical MAGA supporters, the GOP is going to get destroyed at the polls, worse than they did two years ago.

Trump and Trumpism may very well have destroyed the Republican Party. They either move to the right on the fringes of fascism and alienate any moderate GOP voters in suburban areas, or purge the party and move back towards the centre, where they can continue to fight to maintain control of the Senate and House with a more moderate platform.

They’re also going to need to contend that GA is getting bluer and Texas keeps getting

closer to going blue.

Plus the Dems ran an eh candidate. It’s not like they were running a first term Obama.

Yeah but it should at least be vaguely difficult.
