loveorhatembillsfan4life Posted January 12, 2021 Posted January 12, 2021 a good little read. https://www.google.ca/amp/s/www.theringer.com/platform/amp/nfl-playoffs/2021/1/12/22226307/josh-allen-bills-nfl-playoffs “Some of the issues that we had in year one that Josh would never say a word about, we had receivers that didn’t always run the right routes and didn’t maybe run them to the right depth,” Beane told me in October. “We’re not going to publicly criticize those guys but there were plenty of times when people were getting onto Josh when it wasn’t Josh’s fault.” 4 2
Doc Posted January 12, 2021 Posted January 12, 2021 They did Josh, and Nate Peterman for that matter, no favors in 2018. But that was a dead cap purge season. 1

billsfan1959 Posted January 12, 2021 Posted January 12, 2021 The issues with Josh always had less to do with the ability to accurately deliver a ball and more to do with consistent mechanics in his playing style, experience / understanding the game better, and talent around him. 2 1

There's no doubt it's a great testament to Josh that he worked hard to correct flaws, but all the people who say he totally sucked his first two years and was innately innacurate ignore the people he was playing with and the overall situation. Epecially in the first year he was running around behind a bad OL throwing to crappy receivers who couldn't get open or make even semi-difficult catches (and apparantly were running routes incorrectly as well) - just trying to make something happen [how many times I had to hear people on this board wail when a throw 1 ft off center was dropped by a Bills receiver "Innacurate!", and then you watch any other NFL game and even just just marginally competent receivers all over the league are routinely catching those balls and worse] 2

It is also interesting how last year everyone threw Josh under the bus for wasting a good/great defense; However, the same folks don't appear to care to change the narrative that the defense has not played to support Allen this year. 1 1
Stank_Nasty Posted January 12, 2021 Posted January 12, 2021 Well sadly, even though Zay could physically put KB where he need to be pre-snap, he couldnt actually run the routes for him. KB, Holmes, Jones...... cringe worthy. 2
Doc Posted January 12, 2021 Posted January 12, 2021 Throwing on the beach is pretty inspired. It seems like it’s working as Josh can make any throw from any body position. He doesn’t need to step into his throws or even set his feet.

Isaiah McKenzie is still with the team 2. Logan Thomas is a starter with Washington (had 72 receptions) 3. 12 are no longer even playing in the league just 3 years later 4. The other 5 were backups with a total of 55 receptions between them for their respective teams in 2020. 2

It was also the lame-duck year for the offensive assistants hired while Russ Brandon held the purse strings, and they weren't top quality. Allen's first "QB coach", David Culley, hadn't actually coached QBs except for one season at a small time collegiate program three decades before. Beane, McDermott, and Daboll sent the old offensive assistants packing after the season and brought in an entirely new __ and better __ group for 2019, including Ken Dorsey who had recent experience developing a young QB (Cam Newton). You not only see how better coaching has helped Allen, but all the offensive position groups. The Bills are getting so much better production from their offensive rookies __ Moss and Davis are the most visible __ than they have done in recent memory, and that's even despite not having a traditional training camp with preseason games. 1
