And yet, as your data implies, quite a number of HC who went on to be OCs or DCs have been offered a second chance

Quite a number of 1st time candidates also fail, so by that logic one shouldn't hire one of them either

And then there's the college ranks, what's the record there?

The point is people learn and grow, and a good coach may be well deserving of a 2nd look.

It can happen, yes.  Understanding the circumstances in Minnesota - roster talent, GM, etc. that may not have been his fault would be something to consider.  For me I have a problem giving a successful head coach a second chance much less a failed one.  In other words there needs to be a good story, a believable well constructed plan to consider.

I am not sure I would have hired Mike McCarthy at Dallas for example.

But as you mention, the odds are not that good no matter where they come from !

be better than this

I don't think that the poster's comment was meant as a dig at Frazier. I think the comment was meant to suggest that the Texans are not seriously looking at Frazier. There have been many situations we teams are having a candidate interview to cynically satisfy the Rooney Rule.

Wow...I'm hearing some horrible stuff on this post, racial, and otherwise classless.

Frazier was an experienced HC who made a playoff run. Worked w Dungy and saw how it was supposed to be done. He's led a top Defense here, and excelled, despite some loss of personel this year, got them back into form. He is a great canidate and wish him well.

If Texans wanted to satisfy Rooney rule, they would simply have given Crennel an interview. I believe he is a serious canidate. Frasier deserves a lot better than a few of you are speaking about.

This guy is OUR dude and he deserves a lot better and more respectful than what I'm hearing!

Absolutely.  If bums like Doug Marrone, Gregg Williams, Rex Ryan and Mike Mularkey can get second (and third) chances as HC, Leslie Frazier most certainly  deserves another one...He seems like a class act who is respected by all...not a bad guy to be leading your team.

He would be such a good, stabilizing presence for that franchise.

I know he really wants another shot at a head coaching job. I wish him luck!
Glad to see that he’s at least getting an HCing interview. He should be getting more IMO. The Bills have had a top tier defense almost every year since he became DC.

Seems like a good guy, but he is likely not getting hired. 61 year olds rarely get hired as head coaches, especially ones who weren't that successful, so I'd guess it's unlikely. Good luck to him though, hope he gets the job.

I don't hate the move if I'm the Texans. By all accounts they lost the locker room this season. If I'm them I could see hiring a leader and experienced hand as head coach, especially if he could bring in coordinators that I was highly comfortable with.

It's in vogue to hire a young offensive or defensive mind as your head coach but I'd rather get a leader there and some good coordinators than a specialist on one side of the ball.

Man I hope he gets it. I have wanted Mcd to take this Defense over for years. Absolutely hire him. Please.

McD wouldn't take over the D but I could see us giving the job to Eric Washington.

Jeeze not much love for our coach???? I think he has done a pretty good job with what he has to work with. Not having Star this season really hurt and not having a clearcut#2 cornerback has hurt.I think Leslie runs what coach Mcdermott wants him to run...

Its amazing we've won any games with a D Coord that blows, an O Coord that should be fired, a Head Coach that can't get it done and a GM who constantly misses on picks. 🙄

Now, how do *I* use the sarcasm reaction to my OWN post?

How the hell does the NFL allow interviews of both coordinators going into the divisional round?

It's ridiculous and puts us at a major disadvantage.

I think Ravens’ DC is going through interviews, as well.

I think Frazier and McD work very well together. They are both very good at developing/coaching players. I would hate to see Frazier go.

I was thinking this as well, our coordinators need as much time as possible to game plan the Ravens and really should’nt be taking interviews until after we are out.

Already interviewed a minority candidate. Can people please stop bringing up Rooney rule whenever a minority coach is interviewed. It's very disrespectful.

the rule itself is disrespectful.

Kudos to Frazier! He deserves the interview and serious consideration for HC job again. I don't know IF he has the mentality to be a HC, especially in the current NFL that is so Offense-centered, but he is a very good coach and seems like a genuinely good man. I do know his players love to play for him and respect him, and that's half the battle in the NFL. I'd be happy for him to get a promotion and not too worried about that side of the ball since I trust McD's chops in choosing good personnel / coaches to get in synergy with his vision and philosophy. Either way, wish Frazier the best of luck.
