Man with No Name Posted January 3, 2021 Posted January 3, 2021 Allen has a better ceiling. His numbers are better, but we all know why. Jim Kelly was a top 3 qb in the NFL for at least a couple seasons. Allen needs to do it a couple more times. I believe he will pass Kelly. But he hasn't yet. was Jim Kelly the best qb in the NFL in 1991?

Having a back like Thurman catching 50-60 passes a year is def not a problem with me. JA to TT would be like Tecmo Bowl. Agree for injuries could help, but if 50 to 60 passes to Thomas, it will be maybe around 45 to 55 less to the remaining players. 1

Ethan in Cleveland Posted January 3, 2021 Posted January 3, 2021 Let's see how Allen handles the pressure of the playoffs. He looked like a deer in the headlights for a while against Pittsburgh and then it all started clicking.
NoHuddleKelly12 Posted January 3, 2021 Posted January 3, 2021 I love me some Allen, and loved Kelly—they’re different but both have a special place in Bills fans’ hearts. Appreciate each of our great players for their place in their own eras, and enjoy the ride!! 1990, 1991, 2020 = 13-3!!!
Mr. Wonderful Posted January 3, 2021 Posted January 3, 2021 Time will tell and no disrespect to Allen but do consider Allen's team passing records have to be taken in context. Yes the game has changed but Kelly had a HOF running back which took away from Kelly's stats.

Allen is ahead of Kelly at the same age/experience. But Kelly was kind of Peyton Manning before there was Peyton Manning - he was that good at reading defenses and absolutely outwitting everything the defense was trying to do. We can expect Allen to keep improving in that area too, and if he does, well, then there really won't be any competition for Bills GOAT. EDIT: 1991 was the Bills peak offensive performance of the Kelly era. Teams scored on average 19.0 points per game. 2020 so far? 24.7 ppg. It's hard to compare across eras. But for now I can, with a supreme degree of statistical confidence, say: They're both damn good. Edited January 4, 2021 by The Frankish Reich
