Really like the signing. If hes really been on the radar for a while it makes no sense why we waited so long and are giving him the absolute minimum amount of time to be with the tram before the playoffs. He could have been signed weeks ago and been fully up to speed, and would have actually been useful with Brown out.

He was battling a quad injury in week 12 and likely would not have been able to practice until recently

Is that right?  How could they cut him if he was injured though?  Or does that restriction not apply when a vet player's salary is guaranteed anyway?

I don't think it was anything that serious. Even if we brought him in two weeks ago it would have made a huge difference.

How much is he going to be able to contribute when he's joining the team the week of the playoff game and hasn't played football in 6 weeks.

It makes absolute sense from the players side - understand his contract!

He was on a guaranteed contract about the same money as Brown from Houston - so getting cut meant he kept getting the same paycheck - for doing nothing.

His contract had offsets - so if he signed and played someplace unless it was for more money than his Houston contract - his pay would not change the difference is how much Houston had to pay.  He was able to double dip and get paid from multiple teams or he might have signed earlier.

The players are also only paid for the regular seasons- so it makes total sense that the player would want to wait as long as possible to sign with a team because in the playoffs it is about bonus money (winners share versus losers share) - allowing him to maximize his pay and still get on a talented team with a SuperBowl run.

Based on what McD said - I would assume Beane has been in contact and they were on the same page waiting until the season was over to sign up.

It would have impacted his pay though.

That first reply is great.

Major addition! Even if we have our Big 3 healthy and ready for the playoffs!

All in with this signing. What's puzzling is how the Dolphins didn't sign him long before this week given the injuries to their WR core

He was with them a few years ago and they shipped-him-out.

I read somewhere that Stills is expected to sign with the Bills and begin practicing next week.

FWIW.

Good. This is a smart signing. Not guaranteed Smoke comes back 100% and Cole's availability still up in the air.
