Lawrence is head and shoulders above anyone you just mentioned. I would consider him on the same level, or even higher, than Manning when he came out of Tennessee.

Yeah but when Manning came out there wasn't a clear consensus whether to take him or Ryan Leaf. These 'can't miss' prospects are anything but.

Don't get me wrong, I'll be happy if the Jets don't get a chance to pick Lawrence, he may turn out to be what everyone expects, but history says it's not the slam dunk most think it will be.

I dont quite get it honestly. How often does the consensus #1 overall pick QB work out? Not a ton. Many times the best QB from a class comes later. Just feels silly to get your panties in a bunch over this. Luck was good I guess but not a world beater, never made a SB. Ryan and Stafford are solid but beatable. Kyler, Burrow the jury is still out (but Herbert looks good).

This. There’s been maybe three other prospects at the quarterback position as “can’t miss” as Lawrence in the past forty years.

I never understand the freak outs over one individual play, as if that one play was more important than scores by the offense, stops made by the defense, kicks made by the kicker, etc at any other point in the game.

Just like how week 1 counts the same in the win column as week 17.

I always rooted for wins during the bad times. Let the draft work itself out. I don't want to root for a team or players who aren't trying to win.

And as I see it, the players and coaches are usually trying in these "tanking" teams. Sometimes they are hamstrung by the front office gutting the team of talent, but the players and coaches are wired to win.

same here. Always root for wins!!

Plus, when your Team is bad, odds are they are going to mess up the draft anyway.

Exactly. That's why the same teams are always drafting in the top 10. They suck at playing, they suck at drafting, and they suck at developing players.

You've confused the level of prospect that Lawrence is with some other guys. Not all 1OA are the same level of prospect.

I remember the "Suck for Luck" signs in Indi - although they didn't go 0-16 the fans in the stands were clearly rooting for losses

I’ll admit, I was on the Suck for Luck bandwagon.  Best QB prospect coming out of college since Payton Manning.  We’ve now seen first hand what a quality QB can do for your team.

It's strange you mentioned a bunch of prospects that aren't on the same level then. I'm sticking with you're confused. Seems the safe bet.

Well I mentioned Luck who was absolutely considered a "Cant miss, generational talent". Trent Richardson, Aaron Curry, Jadaveon Clowney, Tony Mandarich were all "cant miss".

It happens a decent amount. So many other factors that just the player.

I get the fans being mad about losing out on Lawrence, but c'mon...rooting to go 0-16 is just awful.

And these players have pride, are playing for jobs & future contracts, none of them are wanting to be have 0-16 go on their records, so don't s*** on them for still doing their jobs.

It's funny to watch it not be us, but these people needs to keep some perspective lol

Jets fans are not dumb, there is little moral victory or difference between a 0 and 16 season and a 1 and 15 season.

Losing a shot at a generational talent like Lawrence was a pyrrhic victory to borrow a term from Jets fans.

Another fan likened their season to Andy Dufresne in Shawshank redemption crawling through that long narrow crap pipe to escape from prison only to fall back into prison at the end.

They were willing to go winless because with Lawrence and a bevy of draft picks they could attract top notch coaching talent too and rebuild the right way.

With that win Darnold and Gase gave the Jets org and its fans a big ol' finger on their divorce plans.

Of course, Cleveland did it a couple of times....and got Myles Garrent and Baker Mayfield with their #1 picks.  Leaders now on both sides of the ball.  So, the backside of the 0-16 can be good we are seeing further down Lake Erie.  (glad we did 't go that route though)

I really hate sucking that bad for any fan base but if I had to pick one, Jets would be at or near the top. 😃

Cowboys are my 1st choice. Even though the media will talk about them anyway.

Thats some super lame crap..and shows you NFL PLAYERS will NEVER PURPOSELY TANK.....their owner may tell the GM too....the GM may shed players to try to BUT THE PLAYERS WILL NEVER do that..they dont care if they draft 1st or 5th...they want to win...and those are the ONLY TYPE  of player id ever want on my team...if you have PLAYERS out there wanting to/trying to tank I dont care who they are get rid of them ASAP they have no heart or character.

I get the fans frustration but you can’t be mad at the players.  They don’t tank.  They are always playing for a job.  They might not be back on the Jets next year so they just care about playing their best at the moment.
