Mahomes has been a substantially better deep passer so far. If Allen finally got that lightbulb to turn on the rest of the NFL is in trouble. Mahomes has a cheetah at receiver. Smoke/Diggs are fast, but not Tyreek Hill fast.

Nelius
Don't believe I've seen this, so sorry in advance if already posted, but this is what Josh is on pace for. I can't see any reason why he'd sit any portion of either of the next two games at this point: 4,571 passing yards, 34 passing TDs, hovering around a 68-70% completion percentage 437 rushing yards, 9 rushing TDs so 5,008 yards and 43 touchdowns. That's ridiculous and well worthy of the best in the league discussion.

You don’t see “signing bonus” at “10m?” And why would you argue Josh is paid less when Mahomes is GUARANTEED 140 million dollars. it’s a typical FireChans argument. Josh has a higher cap hit this season. This is a fact. This fact does not mean that Josh has a bigger contract, or that Josh won't have a smaller cap hit next season. A guaranteed contract over the next ten years does not preclude that Josh has a higher cap hit than Mahomes does THIS SEASON. I just looked it up again to be sure. 7 minutes ago, Nelius said: Don't believe I've seen this, so sorry in advance if already posted, but this is what Josh is on pace for. Patty may also hit 5000 yards and 40+ TDs. Edited December 20, 2020 by FireChans

This is kind of how an MVP race goes. It's now on Rodgers to put up 400 yd-4td games to keep pace with his competition. It's not like this is the last week of the regular season. If Allen is lights out and Rodgers is relatively normal the rest of the way then of course it opens it up.

I love Josh Allen, but I don’t think you can call him THE best quarterback in the league. In the conversation for the best, sure. But there really isn’t enough evidence to call him the best. I think the last several games including the loss to Arizona has definitely shown Allen to be one of the best if not the best QB in the NFL. I think he is dominating teams right now. Something the other QBs besides Rodgers are not necessarily doing

Nelius
Savior Rodgers logging a 150 yard barnburner against the Panthers. Looks like he's going to wrap with about 160 yards and 2 total touchdowns, and the W of course which should be noted. Efficient, but certainly not Josh Allen. I'm going to guess that's measuring completion yards rather than air yards. I'm talking about deep passes to WRs running verticals. For my money Mahomes is 2nd only to Wilson in throws like that. Allen historically has overthrown those passes more often than not. Like the one he missed to Davis last week. Today he hit 2 of them although Diggs unfortunately stepped out of bounds on the first one. If he hit those more consistently like Mahomes does he will have a fair claim to best QB in the NFL. Longest completed air distance Mahomes 60.9. Allen 62.8. Passing Stats | NFL Next Gen Stats Best stats I could find on the topic. I think "substantially better" is wrong. I don't think any of those stats are measuring what I'm talking about. There are a couple deep passes per game that I see Mahomes complete where Allen historically has overthrown the same pass. Like others have said it helps to have Tyreek Hill catching those but it also requires deep accuracy that up to now Allen just hasn't had. I've been saying all year he needs to put an arc on those passes instead of flying them straight. Today he did that twice and it worked out. I can tell you from the point of release if an Allen deep ball will be completed or not. I think he's starting to figure it out.

They are not much different deep right. Mahomes is quite a bit better deep middle. John Brown is also our deep threat really and we havent had him healthy. You are seeing what you want to see. This will be my last post on the subject because I don't want to drag down the whole thread. The passing grid is measuring all 20+ yard completions including deep comebacks, crossers, etc. I'm talking about a very specific type of deep pass where the receiver gets behind the defense running a vertical route. I don't have any stat to show you for this. Mahomes historically has been very good in those situations and Allen has not. For me to say Allen is the best QB in the league he can't consistently miss big plays like that. On other deep routes like comebacks he is probably the best in the NFL, I'm not denying that.
