I'm fairly certain a downtown dome was to be announced this year but Covid ruined everything. The lost revenue set back the whole process. Expect the Bills to stay put in OP another 5-10 years.

It's a shame that Allen will probably be in somewhere around year 10 by the time a dome is finally live.

If they are going to play without fans, why not hold games in the fieldhouse?

The way this team is designed, actually getting playoff games in Buffalo in the worst months of winter could be a BIG negative.  We aren't built to run, and as strong as Josh's arm is, it would still put us at a big disadvantage if there was bad weather.

I'm all in on the dome.  We should hopefully be hosting a lot of playoff games in the years ahead.

I’m good with a dome.. as long as it’s retractable!  Close it for rain and wind.. open it for snow!!!

He really does look like a different Qb playing in a dome or ideal conditions.  While his arm is suited for the cold weather, maybe he isn’t.  Poor conditions 💯 have a negative effect on our bread and butter, the passing game.  Wether or not it should, because he has a strong arm to cut through the wind, is irrelevant.  Having our passing offense perform at its high lest level gives us our best chance to win.

I've been saying that for a while. Because he played at Wyoming -- trust me, it is always windy in Laramie -- and because he's got that big arm, people just assumed he was the perfect fit for "Buffalo weather." But they conveniently forget that he actually wasn't, umm, that good at Wyoming. This was more of a potential play than a proven record of success one.

As for that new dome: I hear that Dunkirk Don is buying up some land east of Buffalo.

One of the games Beane talked about with drafting Allen was a crappy weather snow game against rival CSU where Allen willed us to victory.

Well.  I would like a dome yesterday.  I've been saying this since Allen's rookie year.

But until then we got to find a way to instill the "if it's too tough (the weather) for them, its just right for us" mentality.

I had forgotten about that one. Thanks for pointing it out.

I didn't watch it as it was happening, but it looks like Allen put together a strong game winning drive. He may have willed them to win, but as I read the description, it looks like he completed one pass and did the rest on the ground with the help of his RB.

Then again, Nathan Peterman was pretty good in that one snow game too.

General point remains, however: Allen has looked great in dome/perfect weather games, and I'm sure he loves the idea of playing every game in that environment.

Because the area that you have to cover is massive. Notice that most domes have small footprints with multiple levels. Bills Stadium is a shallow bowl with one shallow deck. Then take account of the winds off the lake!

The Carrier Dome was designed with 1970 fabric dome technology. It certainly is not a small footprint. In addition, I would think there has been advancements in fabric dome technology since then.

But it has a rim. Bills stadium does not. You'd have to build one before you could put a roof on. Fabric domes are out of use now anyway. What we want is US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. Fixed roof but mostly glass. Lots of natural light, plus the walls open to allow fresh air to flow in. That is a nice stadium.

Yes it would be great to get a stadium like what they have in Minneapolis. However, WNY doesn't have the financial strength of a Minneapolis. Modifying the current stadium and installing a fabric dome is a more feasible solution for a dome stadium in WNY.

While there is no way a stadium will be decided on, built, and ready to go in the next 3-4 years, I could definitely see it happening in the 5-7 year range....and IMO it will be a fixed roof dome downtown.

A dome make sense too if they want to use it for more than just football. As a multiuse stadium makes sense if plan on putting it downtown or at the waterfront.

Could add another hotel.  Get a NCAA bowl game maybe, try for the final 4, big 4 wrestling show.  Maybe some of the larger touring musical artists like taylor swift, etc.

A super bowl is out of the question unless theres massive hotel improvements.  For that reason alone the budget for a bills stadium has to be drastically lower than minnesota/atlanta/LA/LV.  I'd probably cap it at around 1 billion with cost overruns expected.  Something nice and boring like lucas oil stadium would be my guess.

I disagree. To put a roof on the current stadium would cost as much if not more, and all you end up with is an old stadium with a tent over it. Either stick with what you have or build new. There's no shortcut.
