It is a joke he had to apologize for anything, he said nothing wrong and if someone is offended by that that is their problem not his.  It does pretty sum up the sad state of affairs in this country though, everybody is looking to play card.  If NBC told him to apologize I would told them to f off.   He said nothing wrong.

Cosell would be set on fire if he were alive today.   "Collingsworth" should never have apologized.  .

Reading his apology, that does not sound (read) like it was contrived, written by anyone for him or insincere.  I believe him when he says it was meant to be a compliment.

I was out with my wife one day when I saw a reasonably attractive female wearing a shirt that said “I Speak Football”. My wife looked at me and said “you think that’s hot, don’t you?” I could not tell a lie. 🤷‍♂️

>>>"I'm sick about insulting any fan, but especially female fans and journalists. I know first hand how much harder they have to work than any of us in this industry. I was wrong and I deeply apologize."<<<

Because the above is babbling and pandering. Female FANS and journalists work harder than Nick Saban, who is said to put in 14-16 hour days, and has for years? Really? College coaches spend their "off seasons" recruiting. It is at the point where it is thought to be a harder job than being an NFL coach. His comment was a ridiculous assertion.

Now, as for football knowledge, a woman CAN know as much or more than a man about football if she chooses to. I know several women who I am sure understand the game better than I do. One in particular (who we both know quite well) knows a lot more than me about football and most other sports. This is fact. It entirely possible for women to know more than men about football. My contention is that it isn't very common imo. As the owner of this board, how common would you say it is?

It doesn't really matter imo. I am not embarrassed by knowing less than Lori about the game, just as I am not embarrassed to know less about it than @BADOLBILZ and/or @Simon

It is great that there are experts here that I can learn from, and sex is not an issue.  No need for Collinsworth to pander.

JMO!!!

Don’t forget that the PFFC (Pittsburgh Female Fan Combine) is a grueling event.  It’s been called a “full body rug burn” and “tougher’n getting into your skinny jeans after an Alaskan cruise”.

I’m not a fan of Collingsworth’s style, but he makes his living off yammering on over football games and I suppose I can understand trying to protect your brand. On the other hand if you look at Rothly’s history with women on the one hand, and Collingsworth’s incandescent blather on the other...

Most fans here seem to hate Collinsworth, and I assume that's because he is the opposite of an attacking, bitter kind of guy who would try to make a negative comment about females.  He's exactly the opposite of that during his broadcasts.

I was watching the game live when he made these comments and quite honestly found nothing wrong with what he said and in some way found it complimentary more than anything.

Because it's 2020 and what he said wasn't really egregious.

It hearkens back to that Dr. Samuel Johnson quote “Sir, a woman's preaching is like a dog's walking on his hind legs. It is not done well; but you are surprised to find it done at all.”.

When a woman has worked hard to gain expertise (or even competence) in a field, most wish to be recognized as expert (or competent) in that field - period - not caveatted as "competent woman" or "expert for a woman" or "blown away to find knowledgeable female fans" which isn't an exact quote.

I think Collinsworth meant well, but it came across as a bit of a Samuel Johnson thing, being "blown away" by meeting "ladies" that have "really specific questions", instead of yes, there are fewer female than male fans, but obviously serious female football fans are going to have really specific good questions.

I think he was taken aback to realize from the reaction how it came across, hence the apology, which sounded sincere to me.

When will ALL people simply follow this:

2. Don’t Take Anything Personally
Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won’t be the victim of needless suffering.

Victimhood sells.

Last nite he made a comment about Mahomes being the best in the league at hard counts after he had gotten Denver to jump using one. Al Michaels quickly chimed in that Aaron Rodgers was on the phone and (not sure of the exact wording) wants to have a word with you. Collinsworth said that a lot of people want to have a word with me (again not sure of the exact wording.) You could hear the exasperation in his voice.
